Every time I change my oil or get out of my car, there's a very strong and lingering exhaust smell. I think my header gaskets may need to be tighened and there's possibly a leak somewhere in my system itself. How do you go about finding and fixing something like this?

Look and see if any of the header bolts are loose. If they are, chances are you already blew out the gasket and should replace it. For the rest of the system, just jack up the car, let the engine run, and start looking.

A good way to do it would be seafoam. It's for cleaning out deposits in your car, and they will come out your exhaust in a TON of smoke.

So if there is smoke anywhere but the tailpipes, you've found your leak(s).

Just take it to a muffler place. They have a sniffer that can track this down.Sometimes free. my02.:)

Seafoam the motor through the vacuum line and you will find any exhaust leak guaranteed.
