the worth of subframe connectors??

How valuable are subframe connectors to our cars...are they a must? or do they not really matter? I have been lookin into them and I really wanna get some to stabilize my car and reduce the body twist.....just getting some opinions!

I think they are worth the money, i have south side machine (SSM) sub frames on both my cars and i can feel a difference. Im very happy with the set i have. The car feels tighter and handles better. It also reduces some noise.

how hard are they to install....there is a place here that wants to charge me $260 just for installation, now i dont know if thats right or not, but that sounds like they wanna take my rectum for a ride...i dunno how they go though

Mine are full lenth sub frames, the run from the front part of the contol arms to the back of the front tires. I Mine bolt on to where the front control arm bolts arm and they weld on to the frame behind the front tirres. I bolted them onto the back but my sisters boyfriend did an awsome job welding them on the frame. If you have a friend that can help you it would take 2 hours to install them at the MAX. But otherwise take it to a shop and they should charge you like $50-$75.

haha alright cool. I know a guy thats a hell of a welder but i dont know if he's every put them on a car before..if he hasnt, do they come with instructions so that i can have him do it?? he has cheap labor too.

They aren't too hard to install from what I hear. Just have to have the car nice and level with the cars load on the suspension.
Install it on a drive up lift or on jackstands under the rear axle and front a-arms. That way the suspension is loaded.

I chose the Hotchkis ones, but I was told not to install them till my motor and tranny are in the car.

very easy to see how they go on. It will be an easy install. You can go with SSM or Hotchkis or bmr there are several companys but i know the ssm are easy and great sub frames to install and work well.

Sub Frame Connectors are essential on all F-Bodies and will enhance everyone of your suspension mods. I can't beleive the difference they made on my wife's 92 Formula. Car rides so nice now and it is a hardtop.

I also have the South Side Machine(SSM) subframe connectors. Fit is perfect and yes they make ANY car much more solid. My T-top car sqweaked less, and my convertible car feels 100% tighter.

A good performance shop will charge anywhere from $100 to $200 for a weld-in installation.

They also provide safety in my mind. I totalled my T-Top IROC 3 days after I had the SSM's welded on. It was a Head on type of crash and i really think the connectors helped the car retain it's shape on impact. I cut the SSM's out and welded them to my new car! They were not tweaked or anything:)

I've also seen a few cars twist themselves if they launch hard enough without any frame support. One car wrinkled the rear quarter panels, another car actually sits funny now after a few nitrous launches with ET Street tires:eek: Looks like the car is weighted on one side:( Ouch!

so when they're installed, the car has to be sitting on the ground or something simliar.....it cant be raised in the air?:confused:

It can be raised but the car has to have the suspension sitting on the jack stands, and the car needs to be level.

oops ............ i cant remember what i did .. but i knwo it was somewhat loaded.

I have hotchkin's and they were weld ons .. but i redesigned them to bol ton first .. then welded them. I like them ... tighter car now

i'm going to agree with everyone else and say, yes
they are a very worthwhile investement

third gens are probably the most structurally weak of all the unibody camaros due to the rear glass

I used the Alston ones and they were welded in by them. Works just fine. Makes the rear end stiffer instead of swishing around when you go around curves.
