What the hell is rasp?

I always hear people talk about it, but never really understood. Is rasp associated w/ the loud tin can clapping sound you get from LT's + cutout above 2k...if so I ****ing love it. Or is it the sound of a 4 banger reving up?

It seems that any engine w/ open headers/exhaust is going to sound 'raspy' at around 5k when all that air is moving...

"Rasp" is thought of to be the exhaust crackling and popping. Does that make any sense? I can't think of another way to put it.

I love the rasp sound.especially with manuals a manual.cruise in 1st gear to about 5grand then let off and it sound awesome.also when you go to change gears at around 4500 rpm and granny shift sounds nice.all I gotta say is slp loudmouth 1.or borla xr1!

I just dont get how people complain about rasp...at 5k anything is going to sound raspy..god people are dumb. Is it just me or doesnt free flowing = raspy...Engines normally sound raspy...correct?

Obviously some of you guys have not heard an LT1 Borla catback with catted LT's. Deep throaty sound with the cutout closed and louder angry snarl with the cutout open. And no Rasp.;)
