30thZ286speed 06-23-2008, 11:52 PM I searched and searched and finally I found a good deal.
Introducing Big Blue, our very first Pontiac
2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP Deep Blue Metallic, Sand interior, 3.6L VVT 265hp, 6-speed auto.
Performance of this crossover is amazing and the handling is awesome and driving it back I got 27 mpg out on the interstate.

30thZ286speed 06-24-2008, 12:05 AM Does anybody know how to remove the front license plate bracket on new GM vehicles. Its got some bolts on it I've never seen before and none of the tools I have work.

Another question: I've test drove several of these over the past couple of months. I just noticed that when starting our Torrent GXP the gauges do not sweep across and back. The others I test drove did. Is there a setting for this or a way to turn this feature on? I couldn't find anything about this in the manual or online.
99SilverSS 06-24-2008, 12:35 AM Sweet, nice color too. Enjoy.
IntimidatorSS 06-24-2008, 01:43 AM That's a nice color blue, I hope something similar winds up on the Camaro and Cobalt
dav305z 06-24-2008, 02:05 AM We rented an Equinox SS, and were shocked by how well it drove. I only wish the Torrent GXP were the ONLY model sold at Pontiac. The car does a pretty decent job of living up to the brand's aims.
Silverado C-10 06-24-2008, 09:04 AM Wow, that is a great looking blue!!!

Equinox Sport (there is no SS Equinox).

So the Torrent GXP (which I like as well) lives up to the brand's aims, but the G8 / G8 GT / G8 GXP, Solstice and Grand Prix GXP don't?

EDIT: Oops, forgot to say congrats to the OP. That is a nice looking ride, and as others have said, what a sharp color.
Eric77TA 06-24-2008, 09:58 AM I think he means that he wishes there was only a Torrent GXP and no base Torrent. Not that it was the only Pontiac model period.

See back for installation instructions. ;):D
And if that doesn't work, you could always take a drill to it, and drill out the center.

Yeah, I think you are right.
Reading context > I (though it does actually read that way).

Northwest94Z 06-24-2008, 11:17 AM Have always been a fan of the Pontiac Red interior lighting.
The front plate bracket is more than likely being held on by rivets. Your going to have to machine of the heads to get the bracket off. Then you'll have a couple of holes in the bumper cover.

I believe those would be rivets. You can drill them out, but you have 2 holes in your bumper now that you'll need to cover/fill.

Aren't they hex or torx? Stop by AutoZone and they should be able to match up a bit for it or just take it off.

I think this is correct, by buddy has a hard time getting them off of his GTO.
Then you'll have a couple of holes in the bumper cover.
A lot of people use SmoothLocks (the small size - painted to match) to cover the holes.

I agree, but I wish GM wasn't killing the Torrent totally, I think they need a sportier crossover to go against others in this class. I test drove a Equinox Sport and didn't like it as well. It seemed the engine didn't pull as hard. I guess the GXP has more aggresive transmission tuning and exhaust and intake tuning as well because the 3.6 is a bit louder sounding in the GXP. It would have been nice if the GXP got the 300hp 3.6 DI.

That really sucks if its rivets. I did a general google search on the subject, it seems some GM models the front bracket are glued on and can be removed by using a hair dryer. But this one is not glued on
Do you have any pics. of people using smoothlocks in this application?
Nice looking SUV, I love that color blue.

I'd expect both powertrains to be indentical in those two vehicles (like the Camaro / Firebird, save for the Ram-Air models).

Well I don't know if its the case or not. But I do know Pontiac has done tweaks to models in the past. Sure the engine and transmission are going to be mechanically the same. But Pontiac usually does its own exhaust and suspension tuning for its models. Look at the Grand Prix GXP vs. Impala SS.
jrp4uc 06-24-2008, 02:14 PM I don't know if this applies to your purchase, but GM started a 0% sale today that runs through the end of the month.

Big Als Z 06-25-2008, 08:18 PM Agreeed, the Torrent GXP should have just been the base Torrent. Would have been an awesome Murano fighter, and on the other side, Ford Edge.

Yeah I had to compromise on that, my wife fell in love with the color as soon as she saw it, and so did I. But this one didn't have some of the options I was wanting. There was a teal colored one that was loaded with Navigation, leather, sun and sound pkg. But she didn't like the color and I didn't care for either plus it would have put us over on our monthly payment we had budgeted. I guess the one thing out of those I listed I wish ours had was the Pioneer sound system.
