transporting a camaro

I am Renxwar's mom and I need to get his Z28 Camaro to him in Georgia when he gets out of basic training. Can anyone help me figure out the best way to do it? I have an Explorer with a tow hitch and 6 x 12 utility trailer. The car is so low to the ground I'm not sure if I can drive the car onto the trailer even though it does have a long ramp but I also worry the ramp won't hold the car while I drive it on. If I rent or buy a tow bar would i be able to use it on his car without damaging the front spoiler? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I doubt your utility trailer would hold the weight of the camaro.

Not knowing what class of hitch you have on your explorer, I would suggest that you go to your local truck rental place (Penske, Uhaul, or Ryder) and talk to them about what you want to do.

When I moved, a couple of years ago, Penske would not rent me a car trailer because they said my car was too low. On the other hand Uhaul would.

i don't know jack about the tow bar setups. but i would just rent a tandem axel trailer from one of the rental places. however, the total weight including trailer might exceed the tow limit of your explorer, in which case they won't rent it to you. some of the rental websites will allow you to plug in your vehicles to see what they will rent you. it may actually be cheaper and safer to do a one way car rental for the return home trip.

It's not generally considered a good idea to tow a rear-wheel-drive car with a towbar. You need to use either a flatbed or an enclosed trailer. I really doubt that you want to tolerate driving all the way to Georgia with all of that weight behind your Explorer -- the brakes simply aren't made to handle that kind of weight.

The best option is going to be to ship it. It won't cost any more than it would to do it yourself.

I'd say it is worth the $$ to do this as with a rear whell drive car so low to the ground.... of course if the $$ is tight it may be worht looking into amtrack auto train or something like that if your near I-95 or one of the other main routes

I used a uhal auto transport trailer to transport my z. If you have a kit on the nose, You may have to take it off. The auto trailer ran me 50 bucks and had auto brakes. I towed it with my Dodge 1500 v6!
