Last I checked, you don't get a Corvette for 40k or less with room for 4.

Nobody said anything about how many people fit in it.

They said "at a little over 40k, it's something of a performance bargain." Not sure of the exact wording -- going from memory.

Challenger starts at 40,095, but if you think it's going to be easy to get one at that price right now, you must be joking.

Corvette starts at 46.9k and will walk all over it in terms of performance.

If you're still not convinced, just wait for Camaro. :D

You'll easy make any difference in cost at the fuel pump with the typical God-awful MPG from the "hemi."

And how many times has the corvette been called a performance bargin??? I cant even count. That does not make the value of the challenger any less. How many other cars that have that type of performance and can fit a whole family are out there for less? How many can be had for less? Sounds like a bargin to me..........

If I want to fit a whole family in a car, I'll get a sedan. If we're talking about performance, I'll get a G8 GT. Now THAT is a performance bargain. It keeps up with the SRT for less $$, and can fit a whole family. There's one.;)

Calling the Challenger a "performance bargain" is stretching the phrase by a good amount, imo.

Now, if we wait a few more months...I think we'll finally see the true meaning of "Performance Bargain".:p

You can certainly get one for under 40k and that's not even stretching it.

Agreed. G8 is a better bargain.

G8 GT is another good example of an actual performance bargain.

How many examples of faster cars that cost less do you need before you can't call something a performance bargain?

You do that and find out if you "keep up" with an srt8. Regardless of the tests you choose to accept, the srt8 is a VERY low 13 second car. Driven properly its a half second quicker then the g8. But yes, the G8 is what I would consider a bargin as well. Faster then the Charger RT for less money.

True enough.:) I'll admit that was a bit of an exaggeration.
But half a second isn't worth $10,000 more to me, or most people who would primarily want to haul around a family....:p

You can fit at least 2 people in the hatch of the Vette.

LOL, as a kid I remember riding in the "cubby hole" in my dads 1976 Vette.

Reminds me of a pic in one of my older Car Craft where they had, I think it was, 7 people in a C5 with the top off.

You'll easy make any difference in cost at the fuel pump with the typical God-awful MPG from the "hemi."

A Corvette gets 15 & 24mpg with a stick.

The Pontiac G8's fuel economy ratings are 15 city & 25 highway (with DOD).

Cadillac's DTS 300 horse small displacement V8 gets 15mpg city, 22mpg highway.

A Buick Lucerne with a 300 horse V8 gets 15 and 22 mpg respectively.

A run of the mill Mustang GT gets 15 and 23 mpg, city highway.

An Infinity G35 sedan with a V6 gets by on 17mpg city and 24mpg on the highway with an automatic.

The current 350 horse Dodge Charger hemi gets 15mpg city and 23 highway.

The Chrysler Hemi hardly gets God-awful fuel economy, especially when you compare it to other V8s, especially those with less horsepower and smaller displacement from Ford, import labels, and yes... even General Motors.

The 2009 Dodge Charger with the 2nd generation Hemi will get an estimated 1-2 mpg boost in the city and 2-3 on the highway plus horsepower is going to jump to 380.

This will bring the Hemi Charger (and 5.7 Challenger) fuel ratings to an estimated 16mpg city and 25mpg highway conservatively.

Enough to potentially make it the highest fuel economy V8 over 300 horsepower.

That definately isn't God-awful. ;)

Not sure where you got those vet numbers from, but I get 18/31 in real world driving :thumb: It is rated at 16/26.

15/24 is the 7L Z06. Which is just a tick faster than the SRT8 lol

The current 6.1L Charger gets 13/18.

Since we are talking about SRT8 stuff, not base V8.

I bet a dollar the Challenger SRT8 will be 19 or 20mpg highway...

In real world driving the Charger srt8 gets identical milage to the RT. I dont see why the Challenger would be diffrent.

The numbers come directly from the EPA. I included the link in the post right there in the bottom of the post.

Anyone can claim any number they want in "real world" driving. I got 30mpg in my Thunderbird SC in so-called "Real World" driving, far away exceeding the EPA's rating..... as long as I layed off the blower. If you get more mileage in certain conditions, so will other vehicles.

No we're not talking about SRT stuff. The poster clearly said "God-awful mileage of the Hemi". He didn't specify SRT anything, nor was any SRT alluded to in his post.

Plus, the Z06 is a 2 seater sports car that costs $70,175. The SRT8 Charger is a 5 passenger sedan that costs $36,355.

If you are going to compare a Z06 to an SRT8 Charger, they why not make it complete and throw in a Ford Expedition. It has as much to do with the price, vehicle class, and target market as the Z06 and Charger SRT 8 have.
