My carpet's out of the car and frankly it shows its age. I was going to clean it but I've seen several for sale online for about $200.
For those that replaced the carpet, how did it go? was the fit allright?
Most of the websites don't have the real pictures, they're all generic pictures...
78Z28350 06-15-2008, 11:44 AM I'd like to know how a replacement carpet fits too :D
I have a grey one in mine with coffee stains all over and its just dirty looking. I'm thinking about getting a black carpet.
lordmetalz28 06-15-2008, 10:34 PM well let me just tell you it sure beats and old ratty carpet. i got mine from acc and there where a few issues i had with it mainly the rear floor where the backseat passangers feet would rest. it bubbled and was not a tight fit. other then that i think it looks ok actually
I removed the back seats many years ago; now that the carpet's out, I'm removing the metal brackets that used to hold the seats:
Is the aftermarket carpet cut there ? I'd like to find one with no cuts for the back seats.
Brangeta 06-16-2008, 03:44 PM Stockinteriors.com has the best carpet I've found through a LOT of research. They'll send you samples too. I really like all the colors they offer. The ultra plush samples are really great, though they don't offer many colors for that type.
As far as how it fits, again, through a lot of research, it fits well, but there is a lot of excess that has to be cut off the edges. They do NOT precut the holes either. You have to cut them all yourself.
It's better than buying stuff that isn't good quality. I'd recommend special requesting that they do not attach the rubberized foot mat though. I don't like those, and they put them on the carpet standard.
I just exchanged some emails with Jason over there; he's informative and friendly, so I'll buy from them.
What's your take on the mass backing? (I'm leaning toward taking it)
lordmetalz28 06-16-2008, 05:14 PM i did not add extra backing.. my carpet came with (a 35% jute backing) and so far driving around on 100 degree days with uncoated headers the heat has been fine. the noise level is fine to personally i dont recommend the extra backing as long as your carpet comes with some from your place of order

When I order mine someday, I'll be getting the mass backing. It's already attached to the carpet, and works like sound deadener, so I really like the idea of it. I'm not sure how easy it is to glue the mass backing to the floorboards though. I know, specifically to Camaros, that if you don't glue the carpet down, you'll have huge wrinkles form where the backseats are attached. It's a HUGE slope, so you gotta glue it there, or it'll slide down and have wrinkles.
I've done quite a bit of research on carpet, but don't have any firsthand experience.
I'm probably going to order mine from Stock Interiors tomorrow

Without getting a swatch first? If you're going with a factory color, I suppose that's cool, but I still say it's risky. They mail you swatches for free, so I think that's the way to go first, so you can make sure you choose the matching one.
I also recommend the ultra plush line of carpet. That's what I'll be getting someday. It's a lot softer and has a lot higher thread count than the standard type.
I personally believe their standard type is better than what GM used stock, but the price difference isn't very much to get ultra plush. Overall, carpet is really cheap. It's not expensive like leather. :)
yes, I go with the stock color, which is a dark gray, so even if it is a bit off, it doesn't really matter much. It's mostly because the stock one is really stained, rather than changing color, etc
Brangeta 06-16-2008, 08:00 PM When you get it and start putting it in, it'd be great if you could post some pics of the process and such. I know it'd help me when I eventually do it.
Make sure to tell me how you like the mass backing too. If you do/don't like it, let me know.
yes, I'll post updates as things progress
lordmetalz28 06-17-2008, 11:35 PM i used no glue on mine and it came out ok
I talked some more with stock interiors, but there's a problem:
I am removing the bottom brackets of the back seats. the stock carpet has cuts where these brackets protrude. They told me theirs has the space for the brackets molded in :( so theirs will unfortunately not work...
jy211 06-18-2008, 09:37 AM try auto custom carpets. We used to use theirs when I had an interior shop.
ok, I'm going to look into that today! thanks

That's unusual. From what I've been told, every single thing has to be cut out on their carpet, because it comes with a LOT of extra bleed. In the printing business, we'd call what has to be trimmed off "bleed," I don't know what they call it in the carpet industry. I'm not familiar with these brackets though, so perhaps who you talked to is the expert.
I'm talking about the support below each back seat, where each of them screws on the bottom.
The person from Stock Interiors asked me to wait for a day so he would check with his people and came back saying this area is molded in and a bump will show unless I can flatten it with heat and adhesive...
lordmetalz28 06-18-2008, 05:41 PM are u talking about the screw hole below the BUCKET SEATS them selves or the pieces where the flip down backing bolts?

Oh, you're going to have that problem with every supplier then, unless you don't use molded carpet. I would suggest you just live with the bump, or try to flatten it out. Upholstering a car isn't the easiest thing, especially since our cars have tons of ridges in the floor boards compared to cars from the 40's and 50's. I had a conversation with ACC's customer service I'm going to PM to you.
Brangeta 06-18-2008, 06:08 PM I'm looking at ACC's prices compared to stockinteriors, and they are a lot more expensive. $344.25 for passenger area + cargo area with mass backing compared to $274.45 for the same thing from stockinteriors.
The ultra-plush is $113.69 extra from stockinteriors... but I'm thinking when the time comes... that's what I'm going to be willing to pay extra for. :uhoh:
From ACC, it's $172.12 extra, and they call it Essex instead of Ultra Plush, but it's the same 40% extra fiber than cut-pile, so they are the same thing.
With that in mind, ACC's site is quoting me at $516.37 for what I want (with shipping of $26.01 UPS), so $542.38.
StockInteriors is quoting me $388.14 + $44.95 shipping = $433.09.
I ordered some color samples from ACC that stockinteriors doesn't offer, so I suppose I could still one day go with ACC, but right now I doubt it.
First... I need to get the Camaro I want to put it in. If only I hadn't lost my job in January.
Brangeta: I received the chat in your PM; thanks a lot!
the funny thing is that now that the carpet's out, I just started to cut the seat brackets; I got out out, but not the second one, so maybe I should weld it back in place and leave the second one alone...
the problem is that the stock carpet is cut there, so I assumed an aftermarket would need to be cut and no bracket = no cut, I never though they'd mold that part... I kinda feel stupid now :)
lordmetalz28 06-18-2008, 09:18 PM go thru summit. i ordered mine for 299$ it had nothing at all cut out NOTHING AT ALL CUT OUT
how is the area for the back seats, where they are attached at the bottom?
lordmetalz28 06-19-2008, 06:06 PM since your not gonna cut them out i suggest gluing them. thats the one place i was not pleased with. it didnt fit well at all there really. but then again i never used a heat gun or let it warm in the sun. and i didnt use an ounce of glue either
oneslowz28 06-25-2008, 06:56 AM I have stockinterriors carpet in my camaro. Its been in for a year and a half now. Mine came with no holes in it and I didn't have to trim 8-10 inches off the edges. It is molded for the seat supports but its suck a tiny bend that after sitting in the hot sun for 3 hours the sear bracketed molded part was flat again. If you order through them order it with out the hard rubber protector thing under the gas and break. Its a pin in the ass to keep flat and was about 2" to low to be effective for me.
Heres a 2 pics of mine.

Best carpet on the market. Highest thread/fiber count you can get in auto carpet. So thick you can stand a quarter up in it. I have it in my car and get compliments all the time. Other members on here have it and have said the same.
It really is worth the extra you pay. (Just like house carpet)
