2 bolt main blocklonniedarrell 06-12-2008, 12:11 PM how much power can it make texas94z 06-12-2008, 12:41 PM If your talking about a 2 bolt main lt1 block they can handle the power. However, power is not the issue with 2 bolt mains rpms are. The crank begins to walk around at high rpms. Anything above 7000ish rpms is pushing it with 2 bolt design. But i do know people that shift AT 7 grand with rebuilt cam only lt1 with no troubles. It always a good idea to invest in a 4 bolt splayed main when building a motor. ENRKyle20 06-15-2008, 03:32 PM on that note. what are some factors that will decided max rpm?.. we know already the 2 bolt main is not to safe past 7K, what else effects it?.. (im not talkin about powerband, shift points, where power is made - since that changes with cams) I am talkin about pure rpm limits. crank? or will any crank spin just about any speed?.. rods?.. clearences? Thanks Injuneer 06-15-2008, 08:12 PM The original question is pointless without identifying a specific block. ENRKyle20 06-15-2008, 08:19 PM lets talk about LT1 Revolutionary 06-19-2008, 01:12 PM A smooth well tuned engine can turn a lot more rpm and handle a lot more power than one detonating like crazy. Kind of a hard question to answer. Z28SORR 06-19-2008, 01:40 PM Didn't think there were any 2 Bolt LS(X) engines. ENRKyle20 06-19-2008, 01:40 PM 6 bolt! slomarao 06-19-2008, 03:31 PM Ya were not talkin ls1's here. I would think when someone says 2 bolt people assume LT. Mainly because that is what we discuss on this site. WS6T3RROR 06-19-2008, 06:04 PM Usually what defines max safe rpm assuming the oil system is up to part and the valvetrain can take anything. Is the mass of the piston, pin rings and little end of the rod. These factors all go into the stress that the rod bolt deals with. You know that comercial about the ford truck bed bolts where they talk about how tough they are, well a super exotic race quality rod bolt is like king kong next to a dozen of those working together to support the same load. They are the most highly stressed parts in the system followed by the piston pins, and the rods are shortly behind that. All are supporting very similar loads, but the rod bolts take it all, the other components are much larger and only take a fraction of it. This assumes you got everything else in the motor perfect including the tune up. There are tons of things to keep a motors max rpm down. In terms of the short block though the rod bolts or the oiling system is usually it, barring assembly or other defects. texas94z 06-22-2008, 04:52 PM Usually what defines max safe rpm assuming the oil system is up to part and the valvetrain can take anything. I guess the point is, why should we "ASSume" anything. Last I heard, Advanced Tech was not limited to "LT" engines. We've got an active thread in stroking an LSx engine (not that anyone would have ASSumed he was talking about an LSx). We've had numerous threads on big blocks and Gen 1 SBCs..... To me, if someone can't be a bit more explicit in asking a question, and doesn't bother to respond to a request for clarification, its sort of a waste of band width. Carry on..... :D | ||
