axle bearing removal - need help soon...

I'm battling with my axle bearings now...I rented a slide hammer to remove the bearings and I have broken the track (journal, race?) that the bearings sit in.

I think it broke because the slide hammer was putting force on the bearings themselves and it broke the front of the track...not the back side.

Do I go ahead and continue with the slide hammer, or how do I remove these things?

It broke because it looks like you were pulling on the bearing cage and not the race. Get behind the race and keep pulling. You have to pull evenly or it makes it harder to come out.
