Just Finished Headlight Conversion

Anyone else not like your sealed beam headlights?
I didn't, I just finished doing my own headlight conversion on them, I looked on the internet and I found this one website that sold conversion kits but they were 80 dollars for the Lows and 110 for the Highs. So I went out and bought the brightest, and the best headlights ever Sylvania SilverStars they are really cool looking and bright. I bought 9006st (Lows) and 9005st (highs).

i started with taking out one of the low beam light fixtures and i was like well i may break it but whatever, if you take a flat screwdriver and pry around the factory bulb, it will come out, so then all i did was run a bead of Silicone around the rim of the light housing, stuck in the bulb (make sure they are angled in the right direction) and ran another bead of silicone around the outside once the bulb is in where the bulb meets the housing, after it dried i put them in and i have to say it looks sweet... i picked up the bulbs at a local part store for a total of about $80, for $80 i think this was a sweet self-mod, they are very bright and not only does it improve visibility it adds that kool HID look.

So you basically bought bulbs for non sealed units... kinda like the 98+?

and cut out old ones in slipped these inside?

I might try this I have a "dimmer" factory bulb laying around... I might try it out. I was thinking of jsut adjusitng my brights to aim lower and splice them into the headlights... so all 4 worked at once.

I work at a local car stero shop in cincy, ohio and one night i noticed i had a headlight out. so i went into the store grabbed some 9006's and slapped 'em in there. it was very easy to do and it is damn near a perfect fit. might want to do some kind of bracing though if you're afraid the bulbs might shake themselves out of the housing.

i would also liketo see pics i was gonna do this a while back. most people can do a search and find out how to install i just wanna see the final pics. and maybe compare them side by side with someone with a factory maro so we can all see how they turned out.

yeah, all i did was take 9005 bulbs for highs and 9006 for lows (which are the bulb sizes on 98+ camaros) and cut out the old sealed ones. and stuck them in there except i sealed them backup with silicone so it wouldnt defeat the purpose of being sealed or fall out. pics should be up tomarro. except i dont know where im going to get a picture of regular camaro headlights maybe someone could email me a factory headlight pic to compare to. thanks

I did this and my beam pattern was sprayed all around the road. I didnt have as good of a beam with the HID bulbs like I did the stock ones.

This is a fairly old idea actually...for those of you wanting more info and pics...check out this install guide with some pics. (http://www.sps1.com/Head%20Lamp%20Mod.htm) The Silverstars are the best 55W replacement you can get. YOu can get higher wattage replacements though that are better, but they require more work. Search in the Appearance Section for "headlights" or just look in there and you will see more info on other upgrades.

Is the beam patter the same for 9005s and 9006s with 9005s being brigher? I was thinking of getting just 9005s for high and low. I can always point them down.

What RTV did you use? Will any work? I have JB Weld too, but I'm afraid to use something permanent incase I want to angle them differently later on.
