Small Cadillac coming "sooner than you might think".
Small Cadillac coming "sooner than you might think".
Also on the list is a car sized and priced under the CTS — a baby Cadillac. In a visit to Cadillac's design studio in suburban Michigan we saw hints of it under stretchy black car covers.
"As the CTS moves up to be $30,000 to $40,000 (U.S.), you are creating space for a smaller Cadillac in the $25,000 (U.S.) range. Can we use a vehicle at $28,000 to $32,000 that would address a whole other customer group that would be under the CTS? Absolutely."
Oh, the baby Caddy is more than viable; it's in the works. Cadillac design director Clay Dean, 46, wouldn't show it to us, though he all but confirmed it is coming, and sooner than you might think.

Really, why? How many 25-35k 4 door sedan vehicles does GM need? Its like the FWD large sedans from the 90s all over again. Why make a baby Caddy and why not make a good Buick in that price range so you don't trample all over whats left of them and give them something to sell?
Just as telling is the upcoming Zeta Cadillac:
The "small" Cadillac sould be out the same year as the DTS replacement.
Holden & Pontiac are also to have a sedan based on this chassis. Don't expect much else (at least here in the US) on that chassis till the middle of that decade when Camaro and the redone Espilons (ie: Malibu) reach the end of their expected model runs.
"We need to get the merger of the STS and DTS done and re-emerge as a solid prestige competitor."
...Aside from the baby Caddy, Dean's influence will be seen in a new large sedan arriving around 2011 — the car that will represent the merger of the current STS and DTS. That car, according to sources, is being developed on GM's global rear-drive vehicle architecture from Australia.

Sooo...does this mean Alpha has been accelerated?...2012 to 2011
Or are they shrinking Zeta /o Sigma as much as they possibly can, or am I totally out in left-field, and it's gonna be FWD?
Good.

25K=32K<30K of CTS
thank you GM 'math'.

Make sure you price the new camaro at 36K too. All the young people will be able to afford it and all the old people surely will choose it over the vette.

I can say both, but I'm not sure you can directly compare giving Cadillac a rebadged Cavalier with a rebadged Holden Commodore. the Catera wasn't anywhere near the embarassment that the Cimarron was. And the CTS essentially replaced the Catera. Some figure CTS as "Catera Touring Sedan" (though GM has never said so) just as Seville Touring Sedan is STS and Deville Touring Sedan is DTS.
Before we get too far along with anymore Cimmaron comparisons, I think we're talking about a whole different animal here.
Alphas will be agressively styled, with (as described to me), wheels pushed all the way to corners. Superior chassis dynamics should be a strong point. These cars will be the diametric opposite of the Cimmaron. They will be enthusiasts cars.

This is good news. Cadillac needs something a tad smaller than the CTS. Should do well when it comes out.
I really hope they can find a way to squeeze at least a small V8 into Alpha because from all I've heard on here about it, it sounds like a great next gen Camaro chassis

From my understanding, (and I may be wrong), the issue is not so much "fitting" a smallblock, it's more along the lines of how it would alter chassis weight balance.
