Will the new Camaro have a 100% steel exterior, body panels, hood, etc.? I hope so, I did not enjoy the plastic/composite materials on the 4th gen.

No. Having an all-steel exterior would increase the car's weight.

Come to think of it, I can't think of a single car nowadays that has an all-steel exterior.

Steel exteriors are a thing of the past. Its no longer economical and heavy. However, being a 3rd gen owner I liked the steel components of my Z. Im sure there will be plastic composites riddled on the 5th gen inside and out.

my guess is all steel except for the bumpers.

what do you mean, plastic/composite materials on the 4th gen? Bumpers? Cause I am under the idea that the main shell is steel.

Fenders, hood, bumpers

Fenders, hood, bumpers... door skins. :D

actually the entire door shell! The 4th gen also had a composite roof panel. I don't see much if any weight savings though. The 3rd gen steel fenders are as light as a feather. The corrosion and dent resistance seem to be the real benefits

Anyone that went to view the Camaro care to answer this question?

I don't think we know exactly how much so we cannot say. I remember the hood being very lightweight but that doesn't answer the question.

We just didn't get that deep into it. These pics will answer part of your question, though...

Thanks.....I saw those pics earlier.....Just curious if GM will be using aluminum boby parts on the car to reduce weight. Makes me wonder.
