Brangeta 05-26-2008, 08:58 PM Very cool! Some guy posted these on Flickr! Hope these aren't a repost, because I don't keep up with this 5th gen stuff much. This appears to be the Camaro with a V6 based on engine shots we saw a few days ago.

Z 2 L8ter 05-26-2008, 10:29 PM Nice find!!!!! The Camaro looks a good bit smaller than the big ol Challenger, I'm a big fan of that!
CamaroRick 05-26-2008, 10:49 PM I don't know.... Camaro looks a little tall in my eyes :confused:
Brangeta 05-26-2008, 11:04 PM I don't know.... Camaro looks a little tall in my eyes :confused:
That's because you're like me, and wish it was about the height of that sexy Viper Competition Coupe right there huh?:metal:
91Z28350 05-26-2008, 11:16 PM Both cars look nice, however, doesn't bode well for the Camaro to be a whole lot lighter than the Challenger based on size (and donor platform).
BVrider 05-27-2008, 03:24 AM Nice post. I agree with 91Z28350. They could've at least cleaned up the car a little. But it's cool seeing the two side by side. Gets ya thinking.
skorpion317 05-27-2008, 08:40 AM I don't know.... Camaro looks a little tall in my eyes :eek::confused:
It's not as tall as the SRT8 Challenger. The Camaro appears smaller in just about every way.

Yeah, it's not as tall, it looks to be a couple of inches shorter..... The challenger is at 57".....
Funny thing is, I remember seeing the Camoro next to some Mustangs, and it looked way smaller... The Mustang is 55".....
I don't know, maybe it's possible the earlier prototypes were smaller ????
Still not going to stop me from getting my new 5th gen.......
savage99ss 05-27-2008, 09:36 AM Anyone notice in all those pics that everyone is eye-raping the Camaro and nobody is looking at the Challanger....:D

Very true! The other car getting checked out is a yellow ZR-1.

And here's another picture from the same photographer that shows the Camaro and Challenger.

If nothing else, the Camaro and Challenger look good parked next to each other.
shock6906 05-27-2008, 01:36 PM Too bad the Camaro's wheels aren't straight. That and it's turned out a little bit from the Challenger, so it's hard for me to properly judge the Camaro's appearance.
99SilverSS 05-28-2008, 03:44 PM Great find!
The Camaro does look a bit shorter than the Challenger. But not as much as I would have thought. That model seems to have the smaller dia wheels and larger profile tires so maybe it's a V6 and maybe they sit up a bit higher. I would think the Camaro seen at the Nurburgring with the 20" in wheels and low profile tires would sit lower.
Can anyone confirm what this event was. Seems like several of Chrysler and GM vehicles at what looks like the infield at MIS. It just seems like an odd place to bring a Camaro test car.
merlinsteele 05-28-2008, 04:16 PM I know some people that are going to see this picture and say they look alike! Just like they told me when they said the Camaro and the Mustang look just alike!

I just looked at the album, it was
"Formula SAE - MIS 2008
Michigan International Speedway
Ann Arbor, MI
May 13 - May 18"
2010_5thgen 05-29-2008, 12:35 PM the camaro looks a good deal lower than the challanger (roof-roof).
MetalDragon 05-29-2008, 12:49 PM I would think the Camaro seen at the Nurburgring with the 20" in wheels and low profile tires would sit lower.
Tire profile has very little, if anything, to do with ride height when done properly. The wheel / tire combo should be as close to stock diameter as possible. All of the trim levels should have the same diameter as well.
That's not to say there isn't some sort of sport suspension package on the higher end cars (the Brembo calipers would seem to indicate this..at least I'm hoping). It could very well sit an inch or so lower if that's the case.
That's the IROC rims one. :D They really need to get those headlights off already and I find those exhaust pipes ridiculous even for a prepro. I'd of course take the Camaro, but that Challenger is a nice car.
As one guy said there, "I'm not sure whether that makes the Camaro look big or the Challenger look small." That's a good question.
8Banger 05-30-2008, 10:57 AM The Challenger looks pretty darn good. The front end looks mean and nasty. I'm not a
Mopar guy, so I would never feel right about driving one, but I'm glad their are Mopar guys,
Ford guys, etc. The competition, rivalries between the big 3 are still burning deeply.
HuJass 05-30-2008, 11:53 AM I like the Challenger. If I had enough money, I'd own one of those, too.

Challenger is certainly bigger. Not length, but it's bigger in every other dimension.
It's wider, taller, has more interior room. The trunk alone is slightly larger than the Monte Carlo's was (let alone the Malibu).
In reality, Challenger and Camaro are 2 different beasts. While Camaro returns to the basics and is much along the lines of the 1st gen (a great handling track car), the Challenger is more like a modern Chevelle SS (a quick accelerating Friday night cruising car that will take the occasional stoplight race).
JakeRobb 05-30-2008, 12:11 PM Too bad the Camaro's wheels aren't straight. That and it's turned out a little bit from the Challenger, so it's hard for me to properly judge the Camaro's appearance.
I can properly judge the Camaro's appearance. It looks great! :D
What's too bad is that there isn't a single pic of the entirety of both cars, side by side. You either get Camaro and part of Challenger, or Challenger and part of Camaro, but never both. :irk:

I was pointing out the certain Camaro used at the Ring as one that would probably sit lower. I had to say the one with 20" wheels and Brembo's because then people would know what that one was as opposed to just another black pre-pro Camaro.
I think we agree the suspension and stance of that Ring test Camaro did seem to sit lower than the one in these pics. V6 maybe?
nexus6 05-30-2008, 02:37 PM Anyone notice in all those pics that everyone is eye-raping the Camaro and nobody is looking at the Challanger....:D
yeah, that lady in the 2nd pic is totally rubber neckin.
Anyone notice that the tires on the Camaro look Brand spankin new?
90rocz 05-31-2008, 08:51 AM If you look at the shadows on the ground, the Camaro is shorter than the Challenger as well...rears are pretty much even, but the Camaro front doesn't reach as far foreward as the Challenger's.
(You can really see easily it by the shadow.)
I hope those rims can take some wider tires, the ratio looks narrow.
MarineReconZ28 06-02-2008, 02:10 AM I bet the dodge guys were upset when someone parked their camaro right next to that ugly orange car.;)
I'll take a Challenger please! Can't stand the Camaro with those hideous lights and grill.

Your last 6 posts make that point so you must be lost. Give these a try:

http://www.dodgechallenger.com
http://www.challengerforums.com
http://www.challengerforumz.com
Post that stuff at one of those sites and enjoy your Challenger. Every time I log into this site I see someone who thinks this is a site for bashing Camaros. Only an idiot would expect to see that here. I will never know how someone could be that confused.

Just disappointed is all, wondering how many others here feel the same way now mind your own business if you have nothing constructive to say.
Brangeta 06-04-2008, 02:02 PM The lights will change. The grill is probably production style for at least the V6.

If you paid any attention to Camaro news whatsoever, you'd know that's a preproduction test car. And if YOU don't have anything constructive to say, venture on over to the Challenger boards and don't clutter ours as suggested before.
You move along who cares what you have to say? Go troll someplace else noob. :tired:
BlackMetal 07-09-2008, 04:30 PM I'd like to get this straight...
You come to a CAMARO site, repeating how much you hate the CAMARO and are going to buy a CHALLENGER.
People suggest that you try a CHALLENGER site, which is more than appropriate.
You come back telling them that THEY should post something constructive, accuse THEM of being a troll and that no one cares what THEY say?
In fact, you were pointed out for not being constructive, and it is proven in your own posts.
In fact, your activities are very much like a troll's, coming to a Camaro enthusiast site and bashing the Camaro and then calling people names.
In fact, since you are bashing what people appreciate here, no one cares what YOU say. The additional fact that it is hypocritical fortifies that.
If you don't like the Camaro and plan to keep bashing it, you shouldn't be here.

I still own a Camaro and love em just hate the new one so get off my case.
Oh and I don't call people names.
Here's what they should have done with the new Camaro.

That doesn't justify your bashing and NONconstructive posts while accusing others of it. I'll get off your case when you stop because you are bashing repeated what I and a lot of other people here like, after people try to explain how rude it is.

The OP was about both the Challenger and Camaro so I'm in my element to make a distinction / comparison in this thread don't like it too bad stop your damn whining !

diarmadhi 07-09-2008, 08:50 PM Here's what they should have done with the new Camaro.
Sorry but no. Regardless of what your personal opinion is the overwhelming majority of manufacturer car show visitors prefer the 5th gen just as it is.
PS. that thing is ugly (personal opinion).

Whatever dude. Simply just saying if you want to voice your opinion, do it constructively like most of the other members here have done. You're pretty much in the minority here, so either say something constructive or GTFO.

I saw the official reveal yesterday and although Chevy needs a lesson in marketing from the folks at Dodge, I did like the pictures of the final Camaro. I'm glad they went with the round headlights and actually liked the interior as well. What you and others hear fail to understand is that the Challenger was used in this thread in comparison to the Camaro which makes both cars open game to critic and like it or not that is all I did.
supr_bikr_99 07-22-2008, 09:01 AM Fair enough, but you were comparing a final product to a product in the developmental stages. Not really a fair comparison IMO. And I agree with the live reveal. I was honestly a little disappointed in the reveal itself. Really wanted to see a V8 car on display. And glad to hear you like the production version.
