hard to find 5th and 6th on t56 h-pattern gone??

hey all, ive searched the forums and google and cant quite come up with a good answer here.
I will most likely be calling t56 rebuilds or another reputable shop and asking their opinions but i figured i'd post here first.
Like the title says, its hard to find 5th and 6th gear. It feels like the 'H' pattern past 4th is totally gone. I can get it to go into 5th and 6th fine if i take my time with it and 'feel' where the gears are before pushing the shifter into position.
~~EDIT--Reverse is also a pain to get into, but it always has been since I got it, and as stated below, everything looked good when it was tore down so iam not sure what would be causing that.~~
The tranny had all new synchros put in about 1k miles ago.
The trans has maybe 100k on it (was in a 97ss before i bought it) and appeared to be in perfect condition except for the synchros being munched when it was tore down.
Iam running a Fidanza aluminum flywheel with a SPEC Stage 3 clutch.

This all started after tuning on the dyno resulting in 575lbs of torque/517hp. Think that has anything to do with it?;)
Ive been reading about the stock shifter 'tower' or whatever its called causing simular problems, which is why iam asking this. I will be taking a look at that ASAP also since i have the stock shifter still.

Any thoughts?

P.S.-for those who might have been reading my other post about tuning and whatnot, iam still trying to figure out whats going on there as well-no luck yet :rolleyes:

well the part you feel on the stick is due to the detent balls and groves/holes that it pushes into. Here is a pic of what I mean:

the H pattern is held on this plate (wich can be replaced as you can see) the 4 holes you see on the bottom give you a nice feel of where each gear is, while the one on the side give you the feeling of clicking it into gear.

if your problem is only how you feel it there that is definatly your problem. those detents are there only to make it feel good for you. they do not hold it in gear at all.

you can access this part threw a panael on the top of the trans under a sheet metal cover with 4 bolts. but its on top so you will need to remove the trans to get to it.

Just to make sure though, where i need to go is under the shifter base, after you remove the 4 bolts holding the shifter handle and whatnot on? I might be having a brain ffart but i cant figure out what you mean by needing to take the trans out to reach it for some reason..

The trans shifts fine, its just hard to 'find' where to put the shifter so your probably right. Its better than needing a rebuild i guess:rolleyes:

that is not under the shifter cover. its infront of it under its own cover. about 6 inches forward of the shifter. Its almost touching the bottom of the car. there is no way you could get the cover off without removing the trans. You MIGHT have enough room if you take the driveshaft off and the tranny support and everything in the car (shifter wise) then tilt the trans down and jack the front of the engine up. but even then, you will have about 4 inches , you would need to use a mirror and it would be a real pain. Here is where it is relative to the shifter:

The 10bolt is not looking to healthy either (leaky rivets, etc). Sounds like i got some work to do i guess.
