I need a strong trans mount. I keep breaking them

Anyone have any part #'s for a strong trans mount for my IROC in sig.

I have always had problems even back when I had my stock L98 breaking mounts. I'm just getting whatever NAPA sells.

I'm just driving normal with an occasional burst of acceleration. Nothing that should break one 2-3 times a year.

Try running an LS1 tranny mount (it should work in your 3rd-gen, since most of the driveline is essentially the same between 3rd/4th-gens). I know that the LS1 mounts are a little better than the LT1 mounts, and I'm "assuming" that the LT1 mount is probably similar to your 3rd-gen mount?

Otherwise, might be time to try out a poly mount (Energy Suspensions or Prothane).

excessive torque on the tranny can be causing this also, make sure your motor mounts aren't worn and putting unwanted twist on the tranny mount.

the energy suspension.....

they work good.

yep, energy suspension...i went through 3 runner mounts, 2 in the same day...and my motor mounts were fine...Just shelled a couple bucks for the energy suspension and never looked back, prolly one of the best mods i've done as small as it is

All mounts have about 500 miles on 'em. I'll try out the "energy". Thanks all.

EDIT: Ok I found them. $22 for Zinc finish or $57 for Chrome finish.

Is one any better than the other?

And how many do I need? I was thinking 3.

And while I'm asking here how many motor mounts do I need?

only need one, I would get the plane one. You don't need a chrome one.

I don't think you need motor mounts, but you have 2, a driver side and pass. side.

I would try just the mount for the trans first...

I just found the complete kit for $67. Cool.

your going to absolutely hate how much driveline viberations your going to get. I put one in my car because i needed a new one and oem's were 60 and the ES one was 20. I took it out the very next day.

Not everyone experiences it though, its all a matter of perspective...I personally never noticed ANY extra noise or vibrations at all from switching mounts...But some people do...And even if I DID notice something, I'd live with it for the simple fact I dont want to be changing a mount every other day or so...

I used them in several cars.....I mean more than 10...and never had a problem

My car definitely had increased vibrations inside due to the poly tranny mount. BUT, after I installed poly motor mounts this year, along with the poly tranny mount, the vibrations are virtually eliminated! :) I'm not the first to have that work to "cure" the tranny mount vibrations, but like everything else, it seems to work for some, but not all .

To minimize vibrations, make sure the mount is not preloaded sideways or fore/aft, with the trans sitting on the brace, before tightening it. I put and ES poly mount in last nite, and I had to slot the hole in the brace about 1/16 rearward to prevent preload.

Will try it later today, hopefully.

OK, I tried it. The new poly trans mount isn't bad at all for engine vibration. Engine and clutch are fully balanced. Vibration is similar to before with rubber trans mounts. Eng mounts are poly and were before..

However, the typical rumbly grinding sound in neutral with clutch engaged is a lot worse than before. I don't know if that is caused by the throwout bearing or trans input shaft. Since it's a new clutch and T.B. I cannot blame the mount. Anybody else experience this?
