Bluetooth....Just for phones?

I've been thinking about getting a Bluethooth option if it's offered, but looking around and it seems the only thing that Bluetooth is used for in vehicles is for cell phones. Sounds like a fairly large waste of money if this is the case. Couple it with the abillity to sync with a MP3 capable phone / ipod (say, in place of an aux input jack) it might be more useful. If it's just for hands-free, it makes more sense to buy an earpiece. Same thing for a Nav system. I think I'd rather buy a windshield mount unit and transfer it from vehicle to vehicle (Not to mention being cheaper to replace if it dies).

Anyone have any more info?

I'd rather have Bluetooth in the car so I can just sync it up with my phone. I hate earpieces.

I'm looking forward to having Bluetooth as an option.

or... you can get a portable GPS unit that has bluetooth capability!:D
I can actually carry on a telephone conversation using the bluetooth on my Garmin Nuvi 660 while driving 70 mph on the highway with the T's off!!

I would definitely pay extra for that

Best regardSS,

ElieI can't find a portable GPS that works with Verizon and AT&T. But then I haven't looked too hard. :p

Yeah, I've got a Garmin StreetPilot and an earpiece for my phone already. I just haven't really looked into it before now. Come to think of it....I don't even know if any of the new phones will output music via Bluethooth. I'm due for an upgrade in a month or two, might have to check that out.

I guess if they offer something with some flexibility then I'll get it. If not I'll pass.

One reason people get the in car nav is because it is cleaner looking, and can have a larger screen. Terrible overpriced in my opinion, but yeah, it looks much better.

Bluetooth for data transfers in a car isn't a bad idea, but the battery requirements on the mp3 player isn't trivial. When I use bluetooth on my phone with ear piece, it hits the battery hard. For constantly playing music for 20-30 minutes might be all you get. I could see it as transferring files to a hard drive like on the CTS, but then you need a harddrive in lots of cars.

It doesn't matter which carrier you use any bluetooth cell phone should work with any bluetooth speakerphone and when their are issues they tend to be device specific.

The big reason I would opt for builtin nav would be that I wouldn't have to worry about smash and grab theives.

The MP3 option I want is a USB jack for a flash drive in the glove box. I can buy a 8 gig drive cheap and I can carry it inside to sync it up with no fuss.

That is a good reason to have the in dash one, except thieves could still try to steal it. They have taken radios out of the dash. But I agree, it would be more of a deterrent. I had a radar detector that someone cut a whole in the convertible top to steal. $1500 worth of damage for a $100 radar detector... nice.

I really like the USB option for transferring files as well.

Yeah, I know the new 2009 MAZDA6 has it, but most cars don't have that feature anyways. My best bet is to get a Chocolate 3 and use its FM Transmitter to play ur music through the car's speakers.
