irishz28 05-05-2008, 08:51 PM so i finally decided to lite up my credit card and get some slicks and a heavy duty drive shaft. im having a chromoly drive shaft being made by PST, some rear draglites and some 26" M/T et drags are on the way too. right now im running a set of 255 M/T et street radials on my stock salad shooters, which im looking to get rid of, they have about 12 track passes on them, and the salad shooters are chrome, and i have the whole set, if anyone is interested. my set up is as follows. golen 383, le2 heads, le4 cam, m6, all supporting mods, moser 12 bolt 4.11 gears, qa1 front dragsprings w/ 300lb springs, skinnys, you name it and its probably done. so far with the car i have gone 11.9 @ 122 at english town. i cant seem to 60ft to save my life, i cant break a 2.0. it seems like the car is just over powering the tires. the car weighed 3470 at e-towns scale, with me in it, 215 lbs. what kind of times do you guys think i should be seeing with this setup. im not expecting anything great until i get used to the car because i fully expect to be pulling the fronts up. any advise you guys can give is greatly appreciated.
danhr 05-05-2008, 09:05 PM convert it to an auto
work on that 60'
work on that 60' some more b/c it sucks that bad
work on the 60' a lil more
should hit low 11's
irishz28 05-05-2008, 10:30 PM switching to auto is not an option. driving stick is more of a challange in my opinion. im aware of the fact that my 60ft sucks. im hoping the the slicks will help to remedy that. im sure i could do alittle better than the 11.9 on the the drag radials, but i really havent had enough time to get to the track this season, the last time i got down there was the day after opening day.
danhr 05-06-2008, 12:35 AM contrary to popular belief, slicks don't remedy a good 60' time. It's pretty much the exact opposite of street tires
street tires = really easy to spin, pretty hard to bog off the line (both will kill your 60')
slicks = really easy to bog, pretty hard to spin off the line
Having someone record you launching is the fastest way to see what's killing you off the line.
remember not to just let off the clutch completely when u leave, but to gradually do it (that's what has worked best for me).

That's a Street Twin clutch and you won't see him slipping it. On the hose, no hose, I don't think it matters. 5000rpm and drop the hammer.:D
4.11 gears+26" tires+a steep first gear should make bogging a 500hp car a fluke.
I'm not sure if I'd go around advising to slip the clutch!
My ET guess first time out is 10.99@ 124! 1.55 60 foots. I'd guess the car has a little more than 122mph in it also if you're having that bad of a traction problem. Goodluck!
slomarao 05-07-2008, 01:44 PM launching a m6 car with slicks and a 12 bolt you dont slip the clutch. Like already stated, drop the hammer at 5k, make sure to get the tires hot enough before hand.
danhr 05-07-2008, 01:53 PM when i dumped mine @ 5k w/ a street twin, i'd cut a 2.1 60'
slip clutch, i'd get a 1.9
Without doing the math (I suck at math) I would be thinking 28" tall slicks on 15" rims at 122mph as I suspect there is more in it based on your sixty foot times. Also, go on a points day or test and tune. Street nights at Englishtown can get questionable for traction.
Hopefully you have a roll bar in it and harness (with new belts) or your first quick pass may earn you a DQ...
irishz28 05-07-2008, 06:41 PM thats funny that you said that, because one of my goals this season is to get booted off the track because i have no cage. it will suck that my season will be more or less done, but at the same time it will give me a sence of self gratification, knowing that i more or less built the thing from the ground up and it has performed very well. im not sure what will be next, the cage or the trans, or getting it through NJ inspection. most likley inspection, unless the tranny grenades the first time i launch it.
slomarao 05-09-2008, 01:52 PM well maybe you need a sticker tire. Im just saying that a ST is a very grabby clutch. Slipping it is probably hard(never drove a car with ST clutch) so I thought dumping it would be the easier way to go. Also you or he is going to get that car into the 10's its going to have to come off the line hard. And i mean hard, so i dont think thats ever going to be achieved by slipping it.
I think you(Irish) need a 15 inch rim with a 315/60/15 tire. You clearly need more rubber if your cutting 2.0's with MT dr's. So i think with a bigger contact 315 vs 255 and the extra sidewall will help out a lot also.
You mentioned skinnies in your first post, if you dont have them i would look into picking up a set. If you already do, than you prolly really need the 315/60 tire.
irishz28 05-09-2008, 07:46 PM i dont know who ever said i had a street twin, it not is a spec stage 3, but it is still very difficult to slip. i just got my rear rims and tires in today, 15x10 in draglites, and 26x10-15 M/T et drags, and i also allready have a set of skinnies for the front, and my drive shaft from PST will be in on tues. so im shooting for my first run on the slicks either next friday nite or that sunday. im just hoping that my trans will hold up.

you likely wont spin those on the line.My worst 60ft ever on 26x10-15 is 1.55 and that was because I launched in second gear .not a spin,
it seens that I wasnt taking my hand off the transbrake button and the launch was actually making me shift second :D
anyways my point is that I have never spun off the line with those tires
AutoRoc 05-11-2008, 02:59 PM slomaro! 315/60/15 is a 30" tall tire! I think he's doing the right thing trying a 26" slick tire. He's at the point where a small radial will work....just not with a stick car consistantly.
