Fun to drive, Yes. I went from 2.73 so it was quite a difference for me. AL SS590 M6 05-03-2008, 08:54 AM With already having a bigger stall you won't gain much at all. Maybe a tenth. Zepher 05-03-2008, 09:48 AM When my car was bone stock and an auto, I dropped .5 seconds going from 3.23 to 3.73. Even with the stall, the gears will still help the car accelerate. rock1501 05-03-2008, 10:44 AM When my car was bone stock and an auto, I dropped .5 seconds going from 3.23 to 3.73. We got a similar gain on my friends 99 SS M6, 13.9 with the 3.42's, then went 13.3's with the 4.10's. Slapped an LS6 intake, longtubes, LPE cam, valve springs, LCA Brackets and he ran a 12.03 @ 115mph Z-RATED94 05-03-2008, 06:35 PM With already having a bigger stall you won't gain much at all. Was the weather exactly the same for both track trips before and after the gears? And the 99 should have run the 13.30s stock. With my setup when I went from 3.42 to 4.10 I only gain about a tenth average. CamaroRacing12 05-04-2008, 01:15 PM yea a half of a second is a huge gain, i mean it could happen but very unlikely, i bet its more towards .2 tenths LSWHO 05-04-2008, 01:38 PM My brother and I race each other all the time. He has a 96 formula and I have a 97 ta. Every time we do mods we race each other to see what they did compared to the other car. He had 3.23s I had 2.73s. From a dig it would be ok for me since I had traction, but by the end of the 1/4 he had pulled a couple cars. From a roll he'd immediately pull and keep going. When I switched to 3.42s I would pull a 1/2 car and then pull a full car or two by the end of the 1/4. (through both of these runs I had an intake, in the second run I also had a tune.) tomcowle 05-04-2008, 08:20 PM I can buy that it gained that much from a gear change especially if the car had a decent convertor in it already. Torque multiplication is something a simple formula can't figure out. I went from a 13.07 to a 12.09 with a 3.42 to 3.73 gear change and a 2800 stall to a 3000 stall, how did that work? This year I had a convertor built for my car and I'm making another small gear change, I'm hoping for another 4 tenths. And the 99 should have run the 13.30s stock. With my setup when I went from 3.42 to 4.10 I only gain about a tenth average. Weather was pretty much the same for both trips with both cars. The 99 was driven by myself and by my friend who is the owner. With the stock gears, we could only get a 13.9 out of the car. did the gears got a 13.3. this was about 4 years ago. At the same track last year, I was able to get my friends bone stock 02 WS6 to run a 13.12 @ 109. I probably could have hit a high 12 if they didn't close the track early. I did 3 passes and my first time ever driving that car was going from the staging lane to the tree. I also had my Formula with me and it had a T5 and 4.10 gears (4.10's are fun but way too much gear for a daily driven car with a .78 OD). I got a 15.2 @ 93 out of it. My ET didn't change from the Auto/3.73 but I did pick up 3mph with the T5/4.10's. I grenaded the 4.10's a year ago and am now running with 3.42's. As long as you make 2 changes at a time you really can't prove how much each item effectled the et difference. It's just like the guys with stick cars above. What a gear change does for a manual car and what the same gear change will do for a auto that already has a higher than stock stall is apples and oranges. tomcowle 05-05-2008, 07:35 AM I made one change at a time, I should have listed it that way. 1st was the convertor and I went from 13.07 to 12.50's, then I made the gear swap and made the jump from 12.50's to 12.teens, them some minor timing changes netted me 12.09. Granted these weren't true A-B-A testing, but its not that hard to calculate the weather into or out of the equation. Didn't you do a lot of weight reduction during that period too? slomarao 05-06-2008, 01:56 PM gained 2mph and lost .2 off my et from 3.42-3.73 switch. I see you maybe seeing .3 off your et and a 1-2mph gain. My car is a m6 is it will be a little different. tomcowle 05-06-2008, 07:58 PM Didn't you do a lot of weight reduction during that period too? No, I did the initial weightloss before the car hit the track. Then right before the Halloween Classic I figured out that I did have a spare tire and jack in it and I removed that. This winter I went after the weight stuff a little more, hopefully I'm closer to the competitions weight versus being 400lbs to 500lbs heavy. | ||
