Isn't that the same reported top speed of the Ford GT? That engine as supposedly rated at 550hp and 500tq and the GT's body was designed more for style than speed. The ZR1 has 88hp and over 100 ft-lbs more torque than the GT. Hmmm.

And more interesting is that the GT is just a little faster than the z06 around a track. My thought process is that this car was designed to go around a track fast as opposed to a top speed.

I can't remember in which mag/test it was, but after the C6 Z06 came out, I know a (couple) head-to-head comparo was done between the Z06, Viper, and Ford GT. They were all dyno tested. The Z06 and Viper put approx. ~450 - 460 HP to the wheels (about right for cars rated 505/510 HP respectively). The GT put 530 HP to the wheels.

At 530 RWHP, flywheel HP would be:

589 HP (assuming a "modest" 10% drivetrain loss)
602 HP (assuming a very realistic 12% drivetrain loss)
624 (allowing for a higher 15% drivetrain loss)

Still think the GT has "only" 550 HP?

I knew the GT was under-rated, but didn't know how much.

That's generally where you would hit top speed I think I'm just missing the point of your post though.
