89 TPI water pump, long or short?rik89gta 04-22-2008, 06:19 PM My friend says he is 98% sure that I have a short pump. Does anybody have any input on this matter? Thanks mdacton 04-22-2008, 06:21 PM Pretty sure its long and if you have a serp belt the impeller turns backwards if it has a smooth pulley. rik89gta 04-22-2008, 06:31 PM thanks for the quick reply. anybody else? DrummerDad 04-22-2008, 08:25 PM Ive heard if you can stick your hand behind it, its a long pump. If not, its short. rik89gta 04-22-2008, 10:02 PM Well, the reason I'm asking is I'm about to buy a 408 ci longblock from T@L Engine Development. I want to add a few upgrades such as a flexplate, plug wires, and a aluminum waterpump. My buddy was telling me that I had a short style water pump because I have electric fans and the earlier 3rd gens had the long pump to accomodate the mechanical fan setup. I'm a little confused here. lordmetalz28 04-22-2008, 11:50 PM And they say the economy is bad;) nice setup man rik89gta 04-23-2008, 12:08 AM And they say the economy is bad;) nice setup man Thanks alot Lord Metal! I'm on my 5th 3rd gen and I'm trying to do it right this time around. I finally landed a decent job so it's gonna be 11 second quarter miles or bust! I'm just trying to make sure I order the right dang waterpump! 87BlackZ 05-01-2008, 07:17 PM Dude, If you are getting a water pump, get a Stewart aluminum, it helped keep the heat down on my 87 (I have TPI & 2 electric fans), but they say you need to run the high flow thermostat as well. The high flow is nice in the summer but sucks in the fall & winter as it keeps the temp too cool. I have a long style water pump by the way. | ||
