Thoughts on this wheel/ tire combo

Fronts: 17"X 9 1/2" C6 chrome wheels 56mm. offset with 275/40-17" tires

Rears: 18"X 9 1/2" C6 chrome wheels 56mm. offset with 285/35-18" tires

Only question I have is will the rears rub or need any fender work?

If you put the 285/35/18 in the rear, along with the 275/40/17 in the front
You are going to have a noticable sidewall height differance that IMO would look odd, in a bad way!
IMO I would put 275/40/18 in the rear, so you would have a balanced sidewall height from front to rear.
IMO If you run a tire with a taller sidewall you should always run it in the rear for the best look.

Whenever you put a staggered wheel combo on a car you always make up for the loss of rim with tire. Look at a stock c5 or c6, both have bigger rear rims with 5mm less tire.
Barely anyone, well just car guys will only see the difference. Everybody else will look at as a camaro on rims.
Do you know much about rims and tires? Look in the stickies on the top of this section. It appears you may want to brush up on what advice your giving out.
That combo will work fine on your car. It should fit and look great.

I think you missed bluz28's point completely. It appears he understands fully how tires are sized.

The Corvette staggered wheel/tire sizes appear to be intentionally selected to make the sidewall height virtually identical, and not the overall diameter.

C6:

245/40-18 front = 3.86"
285/35-19 rear = 3.93"
Delta = +.07"

Z06:

275/35-18 front = 3.79"
325/30-19 rear = 3.84"
Delta = +.05"

Tires selected by MILESF:

275/40-17 = 4.33"
285/35-18 = 3.93"
Delta = -.40"

I've heard people complain that the thinner sidewalls in the rear do "not look right"....

I had 17/18 on my car for awhile with 275/40/17s front and 295/35/18 rear and I NEVER liked the difference in size. It was always the first thing I saw when I looked at the car.

And the difference with the 295's in the back is only about 1/4".

What I wrote as a "car guy" is IN MY OPINION. Unlike you, who thinks they speak for everybody.
You say a "car guy" will only see the difference, well a car guys opinion is the only one i care about when it comes to my car. And I'm sure alot of people would agree with me! And just because GM does thing a certain way, does not mean they did it the best way! IMO
By the way, you should really practice what you preach!...IMO!

Thank you all for the very informative information. I have decided to go with 17's all around. That way I will at least be able to rotate the tires front to back etc. One last question: Any advantage to running 285's vs 275's 17" all around?

285s would give you a little more sidewall height and width, which would look better IMO . But the 275s are more popular and on average cost less then 285s. Choose what makes you the happiest.:thumb:
