UAW threatens Malibu plant strike

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080418/gm_plant_strikes.html

First the Lambdas now the Malibu. They are obviously strategic in their targets.

Each time this happens getting out of the country into non-Union plants looks better and better to GM.

I was thinking the same thing today. Sooner or later the UAW will be a non issue.

UAW, acting like a spoiled child since the 80's.

This is local UAW attempting to get agreements. The national UAW agreements have been long signed and sealed. Local UAW leadership tends to be a bit more radical than the national guys.

That said, according to the article, seems there have been some issues that haven't been negotiated which should have been last fall.

I don't agree that these little strike threats are an organized UAW attempt to draw GM into American Axle's strike the way GM was drawn into Delphi. I can see the logic (if GM gets involved, it will be good negotiations and GM will make sure it'll move forward), but I don't think that's the intention.

Actually, that isn't what is the biggest challenge to US automakers. The UAW is hardly the giant it once was.... and they very well know it.
