Too Big?

The guy says these will work great on my 95 Trans Am. It's stock height now, but, in the future I'd like to lower it 1" - 1.5". I think these may be too big, but I don't know, so I'm asking the pros. They are brand new chrome C6 rims by AFS.

Wheel size is:
18 x 9.5 with a backspacing of 7.45 for the fronts
20 x 10.5 with a backspacing of 7.94 for the rear
They have an offset of +56

If these would work, what size tires would you run?

Thanks for your help

Fronts with fit fine. Rears will probably require that same mods as the 17x11" 50mm offset wheels described in the FAQ, at the top of the Wheels and Tires forum topic listing - cut projecting edge off jounce bumper bracket, hammer inner fenders, possibly recenter body over axle with adjustable panhard rod.

Fronts will work with a 275/35-18, rears will probably need a 305/25-20, or a 295/25-20.

20's definitely have their drawbacks... rough ride, thin sidewall exposes the wheels to pothole and curb rash damage, stock brakes look pathetically tiny, stock solid rear axle will not complement the thin sidewalls, causing limited cornering capability.... and a lot of people just don't like anything over 18" on a 4th Gen... but that's just personal preference.

Thanks for the information. I drive this car hard, and after reading your post the 20's don't sound like a good choice, I really don't like the 16's, but for now, I'll wait for a good set of 17's or 18's. I'm just very impatient when it comes to waiting for something I want.

Thanks again!

Go with 18's. Mine handle great and hook nicely with the KDW 2's. I run 18x10 front and back. It will save you some money over the 20's too I am sure.

For looks: 17's or 18's (Just remember you're looking at $200 a tire for 18in wheels if you want any traction. Discounttire.com has Nitto 555r for $150 a tire for 17x9.5 too, I'd rather go 17inch just because the price you'll pay for tires starts to get rediculous with 18inch wheels.

For performance...15's ( Nothing looks better imo than some weld prostars or similar wheels)
