How would you do it...turbo?

How would you go?

Here is what I have now...eagle forged bottom 383 14.1, big cam on a 103, single plain with a 4150 TB 1500 CFM.

-So can I get an elbo or something for the TB?
-What turbo etc shoud I run brand/size etc.
-Someone sell everything in a kit and I can fab it up or what?
-What static comp should I look for? probly just order a custom set of pistons.
-Pretty much if you had what I have what would you do?

I know nothing about turbos, This is a drag only car and I'm tired of being the slowest one around......I want to see some 8's ;):D

Also I have 60# injectors DFI, I will most likely go to a 3.73 or less gear w 28" tire, and new trans/converter built for the combo

You can buy or make an elbow...Wilson makes some nice ones
http://news.hspn.com/content_images/2006/old/Wilson_Ultimate_elbow_sm.jpg

I would drop the comp ratio down to 8-8.5:1 with some custom pistons and then get RealQuick (Jon) to make you some tubular hot parts around an Innovative turbo gt80R unit. Also ... you are most likely going to want to run a cam with a tighter LSA.

Im sure the others will chime in with ideas about Turbos and Cams....but thats a place to start.

That elbow is not what I was looking for.....but my buddy also rec. the same thing and to go to a 90mm TB. I will make everything here.....Not sure what turbo to go with.

Right now possibly a 76? or would that be too small?

The TB i have now is a 4 barrel type that looks like a carb.....I wish I could use it since I just bought it a year ago for $500

Power goals? That 76 will go a long ways.
Def less cam and less gear.

does your TB use a standerd air cleaner base?

you could use a carb hat ...something like this

what about a turbo from the GT40 family ? ....kinda big

That will work, it just uses the regular air cleaner

I'm not sure what power goals....as much as possible:D Put 3300# in the 8's

A GTS-76 should do it.. 1000hp can be had with the 76

..the GT40 series are 94mm...:D

o.k. I will look into it. This guy I am going to talk to in the morning about it. He will help me out with alot of it....I'm just trying to get a little more knowledgable and figure out what I need to do to get there

He has a 101mm:eek:

Not sure a 76 will get you in the 8's. I'm putting together a single 76mm kit right now for the street. Using RealQuick's hotparts which is a great kit for a good price.

A few reasons to go with a single turbo:

*Typically lower cost than buying two
*Typically lower underhood heat
*Typically easier to route pipe (less complexity/heat/weight??)

You'd need some dished forged pistons with maybe no more than 9:1 static. A fairly mid cam. Probably no more than 3:50 gears depending on tires/mph. A tuning solution (a fuel system that can deliver +0.55BSFC), MAF+modified stock PCM, 2-bar Speed density, stand alone engine management.

LS1tech has some good info on turbos and what can be had with a 76. Search here as well; I believe the consensus was that a good 76 could support 750-850rwhp and that an 88mm would be needed to hit 1000rwhp. Jose at ForcedInductions.com can help you out on selection.

Mostly opinions...Hope this helps

-Scott.

I think 88 is the way to go....
Waiting to here back from realquick.........I may just do all the fab work myself, I can fab it up with ease. I have DFI now. And will cc everything when the engine is apart and order a custom piston and camshaft. Not sure a 76 will get you in the 8's. I'm putting together a single 76mm kit right now for the street. I'd run 1 5/8 headers (1 3/4 max) for ~1000rwhp.

Run the biggest DP (downpipe/turbine exit) you can ie) 4"

a t88 or a s91 will get you your 8's. What kind of heads will you be using?
Is the car track only or do you drive it once in a while on the streets? You may want to go with a twins, a pair of t66's will do ya nice.
I assume your still going to use the 383 cubes you have now, your prolly not going to want that SR cam. Checkout forcedinductions.com

slomaro, he is going to keep the 383 and heads n such, and will change cam and pistons.

I believe the heads he is using are stock ported by eric bradby

I will keeps the heads, just get new pistons and a custom grind SR cam. And shaft mounts.

Its a track only car......10.50 tire

I would go with the biggest you can fit under the hood!:D I think you would have your hands full with anything bigger than a 88 but you are not going to be happy until you have a98 or 101 under the hood. Is it done yet!!!

Your right, I need the biggest one I can fit.....

I'm working on it, don't worry, Its just going to take time.

check www.forcedinductions.com or head over to tech and pm drturbo. hes probably going to recommend something around a s91. definitely going to put you over 1000 hp with air to spare. if youre looking to go real big one of the new FI-98x units would put you up there above that and from whats been said the spool on these new units is pretty quick for a large frame turbo. drop compression to around 8.5:1, less cam, less gear, 5" dp. my only worry from there would be running out of head. at a point its going to be like trying to fit 10 lbs of **** in a 5 lb bag. what kind of numbers are your heads putting out.

yeah im with the guy above about running out of head. If your going with a t88 or larger I would think you would need a tfs 215 or an afr 220. Especially with that many cubes.
I would look into sleeperz28's car. twins, afr 220's, 1000+rwhp, think 383 but not sure. Also another car on www.forcedinductions.com that jose did. 355, ptk kit, single turbo, port stock casting (AI), t76gts or t88 and also 1000rwhp+.

I will check em out, my heads flow right at 300 cfm@600 on the intake....forget the exaust, but If I need heads too then I'm not going to bother with it. I will just go LSx

That limits you to 145 mph (assuming 1:1 in the trans and a 6500rpm redline). You're going to want to go faster than that. :D

3.23 is probably more appropriate (that leaves room for as much as 167mph).

yeah, I know.....I learn more everyday....Most likely spin alot more than 6500 too. I'm thinking 3.55 is going to be best but I need to figure out exactly what I want to do first.

Yep. On a dedicated race car, gears are one of the last things you should choose. :)

mike, 300cfm is PLENTY on an FI car.
Cars with 270CFM heads will run what you want, your fine for heads

was just going to say the same thing. 300cfm's is plenty, no need for heads.
maybe a 3.42 gear?
