For anyone that uses a battery charger/maintainer when your car is parked for extended time.
I park my car from September/November to April. This was the first year that I have done that. Long story short, parasitic loss on the battery and the car was dead. To prevent this next year, does anyone have any recommendations for battery chargers/maintainors that can be left on the car for that amount of time (5-7 months)? Are they safe (fire hazard)? What brand do you recommend?

you need a batter tender so it will float and not overcharge the battery... or just unhook the battery and hook back up in spring

Unhooking it can still leave it needing a charge in the spring. there are lots of 2 amp maintianers out there that do a float charge. and they are pretty cheap as well.

My car sits from October unitl April and I've been using the Battery Tender Plus. This is a trickle/float charger and draws very little current. It works great, no problems with it and it's idiot proof, it won't charge unless you hook it up correctly, plus it has an inline fuse for added protection.
They aren't real expensive either. I bought mine on Ebay for about $40
I liked mine so much I bought one for my Dad's 07 C6 Vette.

I've gotten into the habit of bringing the battery inside when I store mine. I had an optima red-top that lasted only 2 years because it was in outside in the winter. The positive terminal just kinda came loose and hissed when i tried to charge it. Down the drain!
