Hi Everyone, newby here, as you know GM put 16" wheels on all the convertibles and I would like to know why. I am considering getting a set of black ZR1 wheels (17") and want to know if there is any reason they would be a bad choice.

GM put 16" wheels on all the 4th Gens - coupes and convertibles, except the WS6 and SS coupes. The WS6 and SS convertibles did not get the 17" wheels like the coupes, because they felt the ride would be too harsh. It isn't. Many people run the 17x9.0" factory wheels with 275/40-17 tires, or aftermarket 17x9.5" 275/40-17 front and 17x11.0" 315/35-17's in the back.

We have a "Wheels and Tires" forum... I'll move the post there.

Thanks Injuneer, that's what I thought might be the answer but wasn't sure. Time to buy:D

I have the 96-99 SS rims (17X9) and run 285/40-17 tires. I don’t have any rubbing problems even with the car lowered on Eibach Pro-Kit springs. There are guys that run a 315/35 or even a 335/35 tire in the rear on their verts, but even with stock ride height you may have to do some messaging of the inner fender well to prevent the sidewall of the tire from rubbing. If you lower the car with a 315 or 335 tire, be prepared to have the fender lips rolled....

I just put 17x11 wheels in the rear (17x9.5 in front) of my 95Z convertible (see my thread for pics) and have no issues.
