Look what I found in my turbo

Now I realize why my exhaust was so hot, my numbers low, and about 98% of my issues.

Its simply amazing.

Do you see the problem here?

How it got in there, or in my exhaust and then there I have no idea. Maybe it was in the turbo before I got it, maybe it fell in while we were building the hot side @ 6 in the morning with beer and bubble gum. Its a piece of 2.5" mild steel tube, folded in half, and I guess from heat and pressure had been slowly shaped to fit the inside of the the snail shell on the turbine housing. By some miracle the blades never touched it. In fact my turbo is as tight as it was brand new. Got the rust off and she looks good.

Look back at the first picture you can see that the metal piece is @ half way around the snail, so it was blocking off a good half of the flow through the turbo.

More to come later.

Would have been a good excuse to step up to a 76 :)

They look perfect. The only markings on the piece of metal are from it sliding around inside the snail.

Is that your MP T70? Be sure to post that in the turbomustangs.com MP survival thread.

Good catch, will do.

I can't wait to get it back together now, should be a different car. I warped a flange (wonder where the extra heat came from ) so I am redoing my driver side manifold.

Get that thing back on the dyno.

Get that thing back on the dyno.

Gots to pay taxes and get a car tag (taxes again) but I hope to soon. Picked up a small bonus at work and should have some overtime on this check.

Redoing my trigger setup and my hot side. Also going to redo some wiring while I'm under there. And try to find an oil leak. Damn projects.

I had something similar happen. You know the washers that seal the water tube to the back of the cylinder heads? Somehow (actually, I know exactly how), one of those wound up in my snail. The car really woke up when I pulled it out, so you can expect a big power gain now!

Spent the past week redoing the whole thing. New hotside + exhaust and now without pieces of crap in the turbine.

I only limped it around the block last night because it was wet out, dark, dont trust the brakes yet (abs delete), etc etc. But so far it seems to run MUCH better.

No glowing manifolds, boost comes on instantly, snaps right to my wastegate spring setting, sounds much better, responds to tuning adjustments better (idle so far at least)

Also redid my crank trigger. Its now much cleaner. Timing dialed right in where I wanted it.

I hope to get out and drive it some after work today.

Well hell I don't know at this point.
Yesterday I saw as high as 14 psi but it felt like a turd. First night it ran great. I am getting so sick of this.
