Thinking of getting a cutout

Some of you may have seen my thread about removing my exhaust. Well I really dont want to put it back on since it was such a pain in the ass to even get it off. I love the sound of the open y pipe but want to easily switch between that and the magnaflow. Ive been looking at electric cutouts and they are pretty expensive vs a non electric cut out. Is the electric one worth the extra cash or should i just go for the regular one? Anybody know any good brands for cutouts? do the electric ones wear out easily?

I went with a manual cutout due to the cost and because I knew I wasn't going to be opening and closing it all that often. On the stock manifolds it's not overbearingly loud. If you go with an electric cutout I'd go with a DMH cutout as I've read on this site and others that they offer the best product and warranty. I bought a QTP 3" stainless cutout from ws6store.com, not sure if you can get one from a parts store, you could try an exhaust shop. I have a magnaflow catback on my car and since I had the cutout installed I have yet to close it. I prefer the sound of the cutout over the magnaflow. I could only see myself closing it on long trips.

I guess you can get a cutout if you really enjoy your car sounding like a big turd ripping down the road...

Considering my cutout is open 99% of the time, the manual one is working just find for me, not to mention it takes 10 minutes to pop the cover on and off. The electric cutout is simply a convienance part.

the reason i wanted the electric one was so i could switch it off incase a cop or something pulls up next to me.

It honestly isn't that loud. I've driven past many cops with mine open shifting normally and not one has pulled me over for it (knock on wood). That's not saying one wouldn't pull you over, I'm just saying it's not so loud that it will get you noticed. The cutout on the stock exhaust is only a little louder than a flowmaster catback.

I've had a cutout when I had the stock manifold/y-pipe and also a cutout now with long tube headers and off-road y-pipe and haven't had a problem with the cops. At idle, your car isn't going to be making ungodly amounts of noise, the only way it will is with the pedal mashed, which I doubt you would be doing next to a cop anyhow.:)

i think its pretty loud. Idle isnt too bad but if you give it gas its wayyyy louder then my magnaflow.
