my turbo lt1 vs stroker supra

I had traction on my side and he had POWER on his side. Took him right at 12 seconds to catch me(passed the 1/4 mile), but he made me look like I was standing still when he did! He made 1004rwhp, but had it turned down to about 900rwhp during our race. He's on full hoosier slicks/skinnies and I'm on my 17" drag radials. :D This is how I hope my car leaves all year, it flat dead hooked and it was about 35 degrees out so COLD streets. I'm still down on power that we are trying to find, but it was a good fun race. That power level is where I should be on my pump gas(I had a mix of pump/110 in it because I was tuning it that night). Car should have at least another 150-200rwhp in it on good gas and cranked up.

Honestly I haven't touched them since I adjusted them last year when I first put on the old turbo setup. I did do a decent amount of testing then though.

Yep... Supera's are all Dyno queens. They make a poo load of HP but got nothing untill they are on the Pipe (kinda like a 2 stroke) But on the top end they flat out Get the buisness done. If you guy's go from a 60mph roll he'd hand you your a## like crazy.
Much more fun to have a car like yours on the street.
Sweet Kill :)

get them a 2 step, and then its a WHOLE new story

The "problem" with supras are
1) traction
2) most people use BIG turbos and have horrid lag.

Fix those two problems, and they are no longer dyno queens.

He had to turn his power down and his 2 step down, he doesn't have bogging problems, especially now that it is a stroker motor. His problem plain and simple is traction.

How much boost on launch are you using, and how much boost did you have it turned up to?

Looks like after I get my turbo setup going, i'm going to need to get a headers kit soon after.

Man Justin, that thing hooked HARD!!!! Hope mine comes off the line like that once it's running later this year. How much power do you think you're making, or going to make, once it's all dialed in.

I'm launching in about 8" of vacuum and boost level.... :D:usa: I'll give more details after I make it through the shootout, still have lots of bugs to work out.

Those passes were probably around 550rwhp, well below pump gas level.

What drag radials are you running. It sounds like you like them.

315/35/17 mt drag radials

those actually hold your 550rwhp? I would think that you would need a slick?

Naw, those MT E.T. Radials are amazing.

They actually do quite well, my old 325/50/15 mt dr's would hold my old nitrous setup(le3 355 + 2 stages) quite well on the street.

Hey reamo....that car HAD a 2 step.

I know, i was saying, most people that say supras have problems spooling, those supras don't have a 2 step.

This supra obviously had a traction problem

You can hook up on DR's with more than that :D I am running 614 at the wheels and my un heated 18 inch Nitto's hook up even in 1st gear.

A local guy I know is making 875 RWHP in his supra, and even with full slicks he could still kick it down at 100 MPH and get all kinds of squirilly. Now, since he has dialed in his suspension, and got his boost to come on progressivly. Last year he clipped off a 9.25 @152, so for all you who think all big power supra's are dyno kings, they all are not!

Nice kill anyway you look at it though! Just goes to show you that traction will always bring home the win against a more powerfull car that can't hook up.

Hope to see you at the shootouts! :)

A supra would be really boaring on the street as far as legal speed is concerned.

But dont you think most FI cars are the same? Anything over 500rwhp has redic on the street.

it's not the cars fault that people go and put t-88's on them, make 900 rwhp, then run 12's at 140+mph. It's all in the setup. A local shop here in town definitely has supras down. They were running high 9's at 150+ in a complete stock suspension supra. This was with a manual and that was also 3 years ago. Their latest supra went mid 8's - this is with IRS and a manual transmission.

To stay on topic of the thread, congrats on walking the supra. Your car definitely looks like it is hooking well.

Shot ya an email Jon.

So far, still trying to find my problem with it cutting out, I believe this is ignition related, just can't get it figured out yet. One day it will run GREAT, next day like junk!

almost sounds like a loose ground somewhere.
Check your main things, fuel and ignition.

Run a datalog if possible every time you drive it
