PROS- excellent ground clearance and price. CONS- Average to poor quality. whiteLT1 03-28-2008, 08:27 PM I see that you have them... have they been ok for you? wildweasel 03-28-2008, 08:37 PM Like I said, they get the job done. They've been on 10 months or so, and there's spotty rust on them (yes, they're coated). The flange on the drivers side was bowed 1/4 inch in the middle. There was a lot of weld spatter inside the primaries. But hey, they were cheap, and that was my main focus. whiteLT1 03-28-2008, 08:42 PM alright that helps, thanks! PWR-TRIP 03-28-2008, 09:22 PM I just got mine installed last week and what a difference. :thumb: whiteLT1 03-28-2008, 10:27 PM I just got mine installed last week and what a difference. :thumb: sweet! were they very hard to install? dangalla 03-28-2008, 10:56 PM yeah i am happy with mine also, i do have some rust on the collectors but other than that no problems with them and like stated the price was right and they get the job done ricehammer 03-28-2008, 11:34 PM I've had Pacesetter LT's for a year and no rust yet. The quality was actually very good. Yes they are a pain to install, as are all LT's. Here are a couple of links explaining how to do it. http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116454 http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100225 whiteLT1 03-28-2008, 11:57 PM thanks a lot. will the Y pipe fit up to where the cat should be? blownbird01 03-29-2008, 07:43 AM I got them and I thought they were the easiest header I've ever installed. Didnt even have to pull the motor off its mounts. I've installed two sets now and both were pretty good quality. All you have to pull is the oil filter, starter, dip stick, and steering shaft. Just make sure the front of the car is jacked up high so you can slide the headers in. 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 08:44 AM thanks a lot. will the Y pipe fit up to where the cat should be? What year is your car? whiteLT1 03-29-2008, 10:35 AM What year is your car? its a 95 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 11:29 AM The y-pipe for the Pacesetter long tubes will change the placement of the cat by quite a bit. Do you have to pass a sniffer test? whiteLT1 03-29-2008, 11:52 AM The y-pipe for the Pacesetter long tubes will change the placement of the cat by quite a bit. Do you have to pass a sniffer test? nope i dont have a cat either :) LJM97Z 03-29-2008, 12:01 PM Not to Highjack (but still on subject), I'm getting ready to buy some PS LTs for my 97, i've decided to go with the coated ones, but now i'm hearing rust issues with these too, if thats the case, i might as well just go painted, i was looking at the ory pipe & eliminating both cats, just hook it back to the catback, is there a differance between the "ory" & "Y" pipes? 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 12:51 PM Then that solves that, all you need to do then is hook up the Pacesetter y-pipe up to the headers and the next thing will be the catback, is it stock or aftermarket? You'll probably have to have the i-pipe portion of the catback modified a bit to accept the y-pipe. LJM97Z 03-29-2008, 01:05 PM is it stock or aftermarket?. It has a Magnaflow catback system with a 3" I pipe, highflow cats or just the main cat, don't know if the Drivers side cat is stock or not, either way, i'll eliminate both, with these mods, should wake things up a bit:) Injuneer 03-29-2008, 01:05 PM its a 95 Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. It seems the Pacesetter rust issue was a problem with the older sets, such as mine. From what I've "heard," their QC has gotten better and their coating is holding up better. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. The off-road y-pipe and y-pipe is essentially the same thing, only that the ORY doesn't have the catalytic converters. You will need the Pacesetter ORY to connect to the headers as the stock y-pipe will not even come close to fitting. Also, it is not the best idea to hijack other peoples threads, the responses I have been giving have been directed towards the original poster, but it looks like you thought one of them was towards yourself. Not being mean or nothing, I'm just stating that it can make for some confusion and you may not get the answers you are seeking.:) LJM97Z 03-29-2008, 05:18 PM Yeah, i thought that was for me untill i read closer, but i'm sure he wouldn't mind sence it was on the subject of PS LTs, i'm sure any answer you or someone else gave me might help the original poster too, anywho, Sorry. Thanks for the vice on the ORY pipe info. 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 05:30 PM Yeah, i thought that was for me untill i read closer, but i'm sure he wouldn't mind sence it was on the subject of PS LTs, i'm sure any answer you or someone else gave me might help the original poster too, anywho, Sorry. Thanks for the vice on the ORY pipe info. No problem, any other questions, feel free to PM me. fireman 03-29-2008, 07:54 PM They use Jet Hot for their coating. Unless you get stainless steel headers, they are gonna rust in parts of the country, no matter how good the coating is. I live in AZ and have coated Pacesetter LTs. Been installed for about 3 yesra now and they still look absolutely perfect. Install was easy as can be, plug access is great, etc. Great headers, no complaints at all. 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 08:07 PM They use Jet Hot for their coating. Jet Hot is coating the Pacesetter headers now? I bought my headers about three years ago and they had the "Armor Coating." My car never see rain or snow and they already started rusting in less then a years time. Ground clearance is good and plug access is phenomenal so I give them that. fireman 03-29-2008, 11:14 PM Pacesetter uses a different name, but it is done at Jet Hot, shhh. :D dangalla 03-29-2008, 11:21 PM Pacesetter uses a different name, but it is done at Jet Hot, shhh. :D do you know that for sure? because that does not make any sense, if jet hot was doing there coating why would they not capitalize on the fact that a big well known company was doing there coating. 2000GTP 03-30-2008, 07:55 AM do you know that for sure? because that does not make any sense, if jet hot was doing there coating why would they not capitalize on the fact that a big well known company was doing there coating. Not to mention Jet Hot offers a nice warranty on the coating on their own headers, if they coated the Pacesetters, I would have to wonder why they wouldn't back up their coating on those as well. PWR-TRIP 03-31-2008, 09:14 PM sweet! were they very hard to install? Not really, the y-pipe was alittle stubborn. 2000GTP 04-01-2008, 08:58 AM Not really, the y-pipe was alittle stubborn. True, but nothing a 2 foot prybar and a dead blow hammer can't handle.:D camaro81 04-01-2008, 12:13 PM I thought the quality was great on the headers themselves, but after installing a set of Kooks on my step brothers GTO, I could definitely see where some of the price difference was. Kooks came with these nice o2 extensions with molded connectors where Pacesetter sent me a spool of wire and butt connectors. Also, they came with regular $2 muffler clamps instead of the nice band clamps :) Though it made it a bit more of a pain in the ass, it was definitely worth the trouble considering the price difference between the two brands. Incidently, these headers picked my car up from an 8.17 @ 83mph to a 7.68 @ 89mph in the 1/8th mile over the stock manifolds. They were good for .1 in the 60' alone! whiteLT1 04-01-2008, 11:28 PM After the headers are installed does there need to be a tune done? PWR-TRIP 04-02-2008, 01:05 AM After the headers are installed does there need to be a tune done? absolutely. It's like eating pancakes without the syrup. (You need the syrup to complete it) Since your gonna be down there, i would change the spark plugs and wires if they require changing. 2000GTP 04-02-2008, 08:51 AM A tune is not a critical part of doing headers, although it might provide a small gain. If you have the AIR and EGR systems removed, then a tune would be more of a necessity. | ||
