What is the thread size for a shifter handle?

I was wondering if anyone happens to know what the thread size is on a shifter handle. I have a friend who is a machinist and for fun, I thought I would make my own short stick to learn the process on. I just need to know what the thread is on the stick for an M6. I assume they're all the same? If not, I am using a Pro 5.
