I having a mechanic that is in the process of rebuilding my A4 in my '94 Trans AM for about 1200, but also said he'd be willing to do a conversion to a M6(T56) for about $2300. Is this a deal I should jump on? I know that having a manual tranny can save on gas, which is big since the price for oil seems to hit new records every day, and that you get a little more power out of a manual as opposed to a automatic.

Absolutely.
Most people get all the parts and do it themself for $2k.

Is that labor only?

Like someone else said, is that for labor or labor + parts?
If it's for labor + parts, def. do it!

Or you could get yourself a stall and put the auto back in...
either way, you'd like it more than a regular auto.

if you shop and are patient you can do a swap for under a grand just for the parts
sounds steep to me

You got ALL the swap parts for under a grand? That's a hell of a deal.

all of the swap parts for 650 minus the console which i got for 70 and the lower shift boot from gm for 40 some. New clutch and flywheel from napa for cost and all i need is the upper shift boot now but it is in a running. I was actually a little mad cause I seen some good complete deals sell for around 800 bucks on this site over the winter. That is why I find it funny when people pay a bunch for a swap, if you are patient you can do it for not much, hell some of the six speed parts cars I have seen sell you could probably do it for less

Selling the T56 that cheap means that the seller doesn't know how in demand they are.

he didn't want to ship i guess and no one in columbus wanted a tranny i guess, he bought a parts car for some reason and then tried to part it out. Beats me

I bought my t56 for $80. Took $1500 to have it totaly rebuild by me with all the upgrades. Basically in the end, I bought just a case. :) It's all relative to how much wear and tear is on the trans to determine weither it is a good deal or not.
