My best advice is to soak all of the old manifold and y-pipe bolts with PB Blaster and let it soak for awhile. Remove the steering linkage and the temp sensor from the drivers side head and that header should go it from the bottom. On the passenger side, the starter, alternator, dipstick tube, and possibly the valve cover will come off. The header should then go in through the top. Also, now would be a good time to do fresh plugs and wires. Some people also take the time to do new motor mounts as well with the factory exhaust out of the way. Kaj 03-23-2008, 07:42 PM ^ agreed, aslong as you follow the steps 2000gtp laid down for you, you should be able to succuessfully accomplish your header install. It's cake, once everything is out of your way. Me>you 03-25-2008, 12:27 PM Nepa, where??? I'll be there soon, and have done an LT1 on 4 occassions... alpinestars21 03-26-2008, 01:30 PM i live just north of scranton, let me know if you will bearound, also woundering if i can do this without a lift?? SNOTGREEN 03-28-2008, 09:45 AM Done this in a driveway on jack stands. Only used a lift once and done the install (SLP, BBK, Kooks) all on jackstands. Too time consuming for me to have used a lift. I'd also replace your header bolts with ARP's if you like the 12-point style as they are easier to torque down and get a 3/8" wrench around. I also use DEI heat protection for each plug boot, and replaced the wires/plugs when doing the install, recommended. Good luck. alpinestars21 03-29-2008, 06:54 PM where do i get these ARP head bolts?? and the DEI heat protection and any recomondations on gaskets?? 2000GTP 03-29-2008, 07:19 PM Summit, Jegs,ThunderRacing all carry that type of stuff. As for the gaskets, I am happy with the FelPro brand, but you will get varied responses on this. caldercay 03-30-2008, 08:56 AM where do i get these ARP head bolts?? and the DEI heat protection and any recomondations on gaskets?? You might consider socket head bolts as an option - you should be able to pick those up locally - I bought 12 stainless S.H. bolts at a fastener shop for a grand total of $5.50. Gasket? Felpro 1470. | ||
