had it mounted yesterday, decided it was a little too obvious having a silver intercooler visable, so, got it painted today, and, it was just a slight mist so all of the fins are still clear so they will still cool, no blockage at all :)

people are going to have to really look to notice it now hehe

are you sure the paint won't affect the heat dissipation?

positive, talked to several shops locally to double check, and talked to a few very knowledgable people as well. Also, back in my honda days, its pretty common for them to paint them. The only thing that is painted, is the very end of the fin, wont affect a damned thing haha

black also bleeds off heat faster too... well according to the guys on some hot rod show on speed channel.

Jchevy, if you paint yours, use enamel paint, and hold the can 16-24" away and do a light mist. Yes, it takes forever, but you do not want to clog it up.

That is funny. Sounds like something a ricer would say.LOL:D

I think the black intercooler looks good. Very professional.

Agreed. I must be a ricer because I want my car to have tons of power and look stock. That's the defintition of rice.

yeah, i guess if you have a stock appearing car thats fast...you must be a ricer?

Says the bottom feeder w/ no sig to tell us about his 200 hp stock LT1...or maybe even his V-6 third gen firebird :D .

L-M-A-O.

Thread starter: that looks killer bro...almost looks like the a/c condenser  .

Jchevy: not sure how people cant see yours lol, looks killer though....very clean looking car!

Black emits radiant heat faster, but at these temperatures there is basically zero radiant heat transfer. A paint coating would hurt heat transfer no matter what color.

yeah, i wish i could have gotten it annodized lol.

But, thats why i only did a mist, and tried not to get any into the openings onto the fins, only on the outside :)

not here to start a pissing contest. by no means do i drive a stock lt1 or v6 firebird. i have a 383 heads cam car. nothing too extravagant. and a 95 formula with a 408 and s91 in the works. but what do i know right?

I agree.

Personally I think it's nicer to see a stockish looking car on radials that is quiet run a high 9 pass then some loud drag car on some huge tires.

I misted mine too about 2 yrs ago. It needs a touch up. As far as heat transfer from painting, it is negligible. There are about 20 million fins and the front 200 arent going to make a difference.

A nice shiny intercooler that is noticeable from the outside says "I have a supercharger or turbo why dont you steal me" Same thing with big amplifiers sitting in the open in the hatchback.

There is also something to be said for resale value with a stock appearing car.:)

Anodizing the entire thing wouldn't have been better than what you did, except for maybe cosmetically. What you did is fine, i doubt you altered its efficiency by any measurable amount.
