Hoooooooootness!!
Maybe Charlie will get one of these if they bump it to 300hp.

FiefSS 03-16-2008, 09:30 PM It's about time!
HAZ-Matt 03-16-2008, 09:56 PM Hmm this should prove interesting. Hopefully these new models will help bolster Pontiac. Now we just need to trim out some of the useless vehicles and improve the G6...
And it would always be nice to add a certain coupe back into the lineup ;)
BigDarknFast 03-16-2008, 10:04 PM Very nice
dream '94 Z28 03-16-2008, 10:37 PM Offer a GXP version and things get very interesting....
Big Als Z 03-16-2008, 10:39 PM Oh you know the GXP is gunna be there.
I hope that the Targa/Coupe model has the same success to it that happend to the Boxter when it got a hard top....
jrp4uc 03-16-2008, 11:47 PM Looks very promising. I saw the story reported on another site (LeftLaneNews (http://www.leftlanenews.com/pontiac-solstice-targa.html)) mentioning targa panels (plural). I guess that will make things a little easier for removal and storage. It also said they may offer a cloth targa top option.
In all, three exciting cars for Pontiac in New York.
2000GTP 03-17-2008, 09:04 AM That is one nice car.:cool::bow:

indieaz 03-17-2008, 11:18 AM I want one. Hell I might take a turbo one of those over my vette..
OutsiderIROC-Z 03-17-2008, 11:22 AM Wonder if a Sky version will follow as well? I'd like to see that.

I actually hope the targa is Solstice exclusive. Solstice was the first car that Pontiac received that was different from anything else GM offered, then Saturn got a version. Let Pontiac have some distinctive products on the showroom.

Could be, I'm not sure. My point being that GM has made a point to stop re-badged cars, and when Pontiac finally got a good exciting product, GM goes and gives Saturn the Sky. Give Pontiac the chance to shine.
FUTURE_OF_GM 03-17-2008, 12:01 PM The Solstice was the original car...
The Sky, Opel GT, and Daewoo versions all came from the very sexy VX Lightning show car. (Vauxhall)

I agree, I've been saying for years that Pontiac has become the 'hand me down' division, getting after-thought versions of cars designed for other brands. Pontiac needs something that puts it in the spotlight for a change.
Big Als Z 03-17-2008, 10:13 PM I wouldnt call the Sky and Solstice rebadges as they only share underpinings.
gtman316 03-17-2008, 10:16 PM I'm not feeling it. I think it would look better if it had a roof more like a Opel Speedster or a Lotus Elise.

you mean, like the G8, and G8 ST?
Last of a Breed 03-18-2008, 12:14 AM you mean, like the G8, and G8 ST?
Exactly. But how many people on this board have said they want Chevy to have a version as well?
I'm just hoping the G8 and G8 ST stay exclusive to Pontiac. It's definitley been receiving great reviews and press. I'd hate for GM to screw that up and offer a similar or same car in another division.
Last of a Breed 03-18-2008, 12:18 AM I wouldnt call the Sky and Solstice rebadges as they only share underpinings.
Well maybe I shouldn't have termed it as a rebadge. My point being that other than the Corvette, Solstice would have been the only other 2 seat roadster in GM's lineup for NA. And considering Solstice is alot smaller than Corvette, not much cross-shopping would be done I would think.
Any excitement for Pontiac went out when a sharper looker 2 seater with a better interior design became available at Saturn. Solstice was the 1st truly unique offering from Pontiac, and then that gets taken away.
poSSum 03-18-2008, 07:59 AM The Targa isn't for me, but it should help sell a few more cars, especially if it gets priced below the roadster.
Let Pontiac have some distinctive products on the showroom.
AFAIK the Solstice does have an exclusive on the ZOK "ClubSport" option which makes it the one to have for the track.

Corvette shares the Y-body w/ the XLR.
Last of a Breed 03-18-2008, 10:28 AM Corvette shares the Y-body w/ the XLR.
Damn forgot about the XLR. :o My point being Corvette and Chevy aren't exactly hurting in terms of brand image and sales, well at least not compared to Pontiac. To give Saturn the Sky so quickly after Pontiac got the Solstice was wrong imho.
Any idea on price? I really like the Sky RL, but $30K is too much. You think this could bring it down to around $25K?
CheshireCat 03-18-2008, 12:33 PM Any idea on price? I really like the Sky RL, but $30K is too much. You think this could bring it down to around $25K?
I wish, but also doubt... At least not the turbo version. It will certainly be priced above the new CobaltSS.
jg95z28 03-18-2008, 03:46 PM I'd seriously consider a turbo targa if it were not for two issues: premium fuel required; no back seat. :p
stereomandan 03-18-2008, 07:01 PM Looks awesome, but I don't care for the over/under rear exhaust.
I also somehow see Pinto in the design.

falchulk 03-18-2008, 07:10 PM I love it. I would have bought a solstice if it had done 0 to 60 in 5 sec and the 1/4 in 13.5
dav305z 03-19-2008, 03:00 AM It doesn't look as good as the original concept...it looks better.
My favorite aspect of the design is the way the targa top cuts into the side window. It likely doesn't do visibility any favors, but it's a spectacular line that tightens up the entire body. And after all, cars like this are supposed to be form before function.

Those guys on gminsidenews are morons. How hard is it to pull out a 31lb top? I would rather have that than the added weight and expense of the mechinism to retract the top. It's not chessy or cheap. Simple is always better.
HuJass 03-19-2008, 11:25 AM LOVE IT!!!
Keep 'em coming, Pontiac!!
Looks great with the targa removed.
indieaz 03-19-2008, 12:02 PM LOVE IT! I want one. Seriously...time to trade in my Jeep
The new camaro just no longer has me excited. But I've always liked the Solstice but am not a fan of conertibles. This Targa version is completely bad ass.

I agree, this isn't a Cadillac and I don't want a heavy, complex, mechanical top that will cost thousands of dollars more. Solstice Targa is perfect. What did the Camaro tops weigh? how about the Vette?

About 35 pounds i'd say. And I agree about the complexity of a convertible top. The only reason i *wouldn't* buy a solstice currently is I don't want a convertible. Despite the fact that i live in a climate where i could have the top down most the year.
CLEAN 03-19-2008, 05:53 PM Vette top is about 20 lbs
My Red 93Z-28 03-19-2008, 10:09 PM Damn that is one sexy car! I don't think I could fit in it though
Doug Harden 03-19-2008, 10:24 PM Where does the top go when it's taken off?
Cheap Guy 03-19-2008, 10:29 PM For some reason, I think of the convertible as a "chick car" but the targa looks like a man's car. I could easily see myself driving this, especially in the silver color shown.
I think this is better than a new TransAm/Firebird, especially if it's exclusive to Pontiac for a year or so.
AdioSS 03-19-2008, 10:47 PM good question! The top is MUCH wider than the hatch in the back. And there is NO way that it'll fit over the seats into the back. Maybe it's like the older Mercedes SL where you have a hardtop that gets stored in the garage and a ragtop that actually fits in the car?
Is this a production model or just a concept?
If it's a concept, then I can see the production model changing the hatch design to extend down to the body-line between the taillights and over the license plate. That would actually offer some sort of functionality.
Overall this is a very nice looking car!
mastrdrver 03-19-2008, 11:33 PM Autoblog, and I think it is in the press release too, said that the top can not be stored in the back and is just a lift off. It apparently has a soft top that is stored in the back just in case you get caught out in the ran or something.
91Z28350 03-20-2008, 12:15 AM Not really MY style of car, but very nicely executed and good to see it! Pontiac NEEDS cars like this, not Saturn, not Chevrolet, PONTIAC!

They can get over the top sometimes but its not that bad of a site. Cheersandgears is alot worse, they have no moderation of the trolls that infest that site.
Beautiful car! I agree with Cheap Guy that the vert seemed a little effeminate, but the coupe is stunning. I came close to buying a Sky but in the end the convertible top and total lack of utility killed it for me. The coupe fixes the soft top issue but I'm a little disappointed that there's not more cargo room. I'm not asking for much ... just enough for a decent weekend getaway, or a few bags of groceries, or a couple of sets of golf clubs. Maybe there's more in the coupe than it appears.
The price will be interesting. Usually when they make a convertible out of a fixed roof car they add a few thousand for the trouble. Anyone wanna bet the Solstice coupe does not reflect a similar price difference going the other way?

Ray86IROC 03-20-2008, 07:40 PM Anyone know what kind of performance people are getting out of the current GXP verts? I never paid any attention.
I'm sure the turbo 2.0l is moddable and can be built to be extreme, but any know what kinda power they put down stock and w/ mild bolt ons/boost controller?? I've never seen a dyno for a GXP.
Were the Verts power or manual top, I presume this would be lighter.
I think I would actually consider this thing, especially if it is still cheap in GXP form. It's like a true Micro Vette now... And with a power infusion w/ a modded turbo motor it could easily be faster, heh.
Get over 300hp and it's gonna start being darn fast.
My Red 93Z-28 03-20-2008, 08:06 PM Anybody still think Pontiac needs to die? I never did, but I definately don't now :D

I'm not sure about modded, but stock they run 0-60 in 5.5-5.8 seconds and the quarter in the high 13s to low 14s.
