"Pontiac is car?"

Did someone in advertising forget a word or two?
"pontiac is car"?

I have seen it in the G8 ads. Just wondering if I am missing something? Is CAR meant as something else? Just sounds weird. Especially the new Spy Hunter G8 commercial. The announcer says "Your love for car"

The only car I know of using that name is K.A.R.R. from Knight Rider...;)

What happened to "We Build Excitement?" THAT was a decent, lasting campaign. This is asinine.

I can understand the general message behind it, but then Pontiac also has the Torrent which is not a car. It's fine if Pontiac is trying to get the message out that they are focusing on building cars, but that slogan is lame.

They need a slogan that evokes its performance heritage.

I can't make any sense of it, pretty unusual for a catch slogan.

Agreed...

I don't criticize GM things much... but this campaign is ill-focused and uninspired. Have they forgotten the G8 ST? Maybe it's not a truck... but it sure seems like one. "We Build Excitement" was much better.

Why not something simple as "Pontiac: Performance Inspired" or something along those lines? Hell of a lot better than Pontiac is Car.

Yeah.......This is gotta go as one of the lamest slogans ever, come on how hard can it be to come up with something peformance minded.

Has anybody seen the G8 commercial that shows the Chevette with surfboards on top of it "as a first car"....:no:....they could have used about 1000 differnent GM cars for that spot and it would have been 100 times better.

Also, for the record I hate when they use "first ever" G8, like they did with G6.

I mean when I saw the Sky Hunter commercial I was like thats so cool but then at the end when they say the slogan "your love for car" it just lost me I was like..love for what? Car?

and yes the torrent and the G8st..though not trucks are not totally cars either.

And last I am kinda surprised I am the only one asking about this besides Jason E. I have searched other boards and nothing yet.

Hey I got a new ad for Pontiac..old and new..

"Pontiac:we excitement" sounds about right for the new ad slogan.:o

I really liked the Pontiac-Action campaign.

Guess that wasnt stupid enough though.

I don't understand how some of these marketing "geniuses" come up with these things. Don't they do research and testing to see what kind of reaction it will have? I just don't see how it could pass through all the channels at GM and get approved.

What kills me about the "pontiac is car" ad is they came up with a really good one. They are right on track comparing to and beating BMW. There was one ad that said we beat them at their own game,

"guess its our game now"

They need to put a WS6 hood on every Pontiac car sold. Then bring back the 1998 Trans Am commercial style for the entire lineup, where the LS1 ate the Ferrari and **** it out the exhaust. "Pontiac, we eat and **** out Ferraris" That would work!

Maybe it's for all the "txt'ers" out there?

I admit though, we need a lolcat to go with this "Pontiac is car" crap.

Maybe on import boards, but I'll tell you...you saying that is the FIRST time I've ever heard that. And I sold Pontiacs for 6 years. Lots of them. And while you may not have liked the Grand Ams, A LOT of people really, really did. When I started there in October 2000, we couldn't keep GT models on the lots...they'd sell as fast as we could get them in. Until I drove a GXP or Comp G, I swear a Grand Am GT was the best handling FWD I'd ever driven...and I've driven a lot of them.

They made a then-'00 Accord coupe look like the uninspired jellybean it was. The interior in them sucked (I know, I had one), but they drove pretty nice and looked pretty aggressive for that price category.

I admit though, we need a lolcat to go with this "Pontiac is car" crap.

...CAR?...Sounds like a cheap phsyc quote, and doesn't "relate" what Pontiac is to me.

It should come with: sport tuned suspensions, larger alloy wheels, low profile performance tires, vibrant colors, cool gadgets, race inspired bucket seats, manual shift coupes and manual shift sedans...and throaty exhausts.
