Intercooler 03-14-2008, 08:04 AM Just curious what everyone is running and how you like it. I wanted to see pictures of the boxes with subs installed. I see some decent looking boxes on E-Bay that look to be made to drop in. Just want to see what you lose in doing it or if you can leave the t-top holder in place and possibly put a 10 or 12 on the side somehow.
I have two options of how to go. I either do one 12" IDMax or two FI-Q 12's. Outside of that I would have to buy a 10 or 10's to do anything different.
Also where is the best place to put mount an amp for these subs in the back? Thanks!
EvilBird 03-14-2008, 11:27 AM I'll try to get some pics up, but basically i took out my t-top holders in my trunk and had Tweeters make me a custom fiberglass and wood box for two 12" JL subs that fit flush with the rear side panels, the subs are tilted toward the front of the car, my amp is mounted underneith the box in the trunk so you have to pull the box out to ge it and you cant see it
they used the same color carpet on the box and put some plexi glass around the subs and painted them red just to add a little styling
it looks really clean and it pounds
dont just throw a box back there, for a little more $ just have a shop custom make a box, itl look and sound so much better
however there are some that go across from where the spare tire is, drivers side rear trunk panel, if you only want one sub and you can save your t-top holder
i sacrifced the holder for 2 12's but eventually im gonna take the back seats out and make make someplace for the t-tops to go that will still look good when they are not there. for now i just put them on the back seats on a blanket or leave the tops at home and hope for no rain ;)
Intercooler 03-14-2008, 11:40 AM I am kind of tore on what to do right now. I know I don't want to take out the T-Top holder and lose all my space there. So I am thinking about putting either one 10" sub in the passenger side with one of these: http://www.subthump.com/acamarostealth.htm and mounting the amp to the rear piece they also sell and putting a cd changer on the other side or just saying screw the changer and put two 10" RE SE's back there with an amp.
kick Z tail out 03-14-2008, 02:26 PM Whatever you end up doing, you can't go wrong with a Subthump box. He builds some awesome, rugged and good looking enclosures!
bluz28 03-14-2008, 06:31 PM Have you thought about maybe running 2 IDMAX 10's, each in their own stealth box?
Thats what I have in my Z28 right now, and they POUND!:D
I'd post some pictures but, spending money on my car has priority over buying a digital camera.

These are 2 12's, with an amp for the subs, and an amp for the component speakers. along with the capacitor. Now, of course this takes out the t-top holder, but I didnt mind too much. I thought it was a very clean job, and love the sound.

Looks good, do you have anymore pics? I am just about ready to put together a system since my front speakers took a sh*^......It will help get the creative thoughts going haha
blkgagt94 03-18-2008, 03:43 AM ill be making a custom box this spring ill have pics up later on box will be 17dx46wx13h t-shape to fit in the back hole then custom fiberglassing it with the amps in as well. by doing this 46"+ across this mean iam taking out the to side panels an bose lil sub. then goning in with 2 re sx 12's with two kicker zx 1500 around 3,500 RMS
Intercooler 03-18-2008, 08:09 AM Two IDMax 10's would be great but they are so expensive! I don't think I could find them for under $700 for the pair. I can get RE-SE 10's for about $250 for the pair and they will get real close in sound. That is unless someone has a connection for ID subs cheap  I think I am going to go with the stealth side pieces so I can keep my t-top holder. Question is though how much better/worse will two 10's sound over a single?
96 Z 28 03-19-2008, 04:31 PM I have a single 10" in a Stealth Box, and it provides enough bass to cover the spectrum. I would not consider it ground pounding bass, but definitely enough for true sound.
Also note I have an Elemental Designs 11.k.2 Sub (http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=30) powered with only about 200 RMS, I am willing to bet if you doubled the power it would really pound nicely;)
I was thinking about a Passenger Side Stealth Box, but instead decided to remove the spare tire and mount my amps in that space, so that they are hidden from sight:cool:
Intercooler 03-19-2008, 09:04 PM Are you using the stock Monsoon system?
I added more grief to the mix tonight. I won a CD changer on E-Gay and have to decide whether to install it or put a sub there. It's either a single and the changer or two 10's and no changer. I don't know anything about eD subs but their one 10" for $155 is the suggested sub by subthump. It has 18mm of Xmax like the RE SE-10's have.

Nope I ripped out the entire Bose Sytem:o I have a Kenwood Head Unit and with Infinity Kappa 6.5s in the Doors and the 10" Sub. Powered by two US Acoustics Amps mounted in the Spare Tire Compartment on the Passenger side.
ED is actually an outstanding sub for the price. The fact that Subthump now has them as a standard for their 'Loaded' Box should back that up.
Also if you are looking only for Clean Crisp Sound, and not Window Shattering Bass, you can get away with the $100 11.k.2, (That's what I have) just make sure you put at least 350 RMS to it.;)
Intercooler 03-20-2008, 09:48 AM Is my thinking correct that I can't run the changer and two subs in the sides? I also don't know with the sub on the spare tire side if I can still get it out okay. Wish I knew!
megabass 03-20-2008, 10:51 AM You can actuall re-locate the changer. In other words you can put it anywhere you like. I've seen them mounted on the rear wall amp rack before. So you don't necessarily have to give up a sub to have a disc changer.
Intercooler 03-20-2008, 10:56 AM Good news and thanks for that. Someone sell the wiring to extend the changer? So I will lose the spare and jack though. I guess that doesn't matter a whole lot. I kind of never used one in any of my other vehicles.
96 Z 28 03-20-2008, 11:22 AM If you use the area where the spare tire is for a Sub or amps, you definately will have to remove the Spare and Jack.... You may be able to keep it with the disk changeralone, not really sure on that one.
megabass 03-21-2008, 11:26 AM If you move the changer to the passenger side, you won't lose the spare. Set it on the shelf in front of the tire and trim the panel around it. I'm thinking metra makes an extension cable if it's a factory changer. If you want a sub on the pass. side, then naturally you will need to remove the spare.
Intercooler 03-21-2008, 01:52 PM I called them yesterday and they don't make a cable. I guess to move location you would need to make your own or splice an extension in.
BandDirector Blk98ZM6 03-22-2008, 04:27 PM I moved my changer to the passenger side and I got my new cable from www.radiosandmore.com You can check out my install at the link in my sig.

Looks great! What did you use to cut the plastic on the passenger side? Looks clean!
Also... how did you mount the amp to the spare? I am interest in that if I can fit a Hifonics 1200 or 1600 on there.
Can you take some pictures of your CD changer mounts? I just got mine yesterday and it has two little brackets. Is that typically all they come with?
fredmr39 03-24-2008, 01:36 PM didn't have t-tops, so losing that wasn't an issue.
All I wanted was a single 12, some trunk space, and everything to be completely covered when I left my car. There is another amp for my front components in the pics below hidden in the "stealth" location mounted and bolted on a board I made.

kick Z tail out 03-24-2008, 02:59 PM Look at the surround on that sub! What make is that damn thing?
Intercooler 03-24-2008, 03:07 PM Possibly a TC-3000 from TC Sounds?
fredmr39 03-25-2008, 01:19 AM yea it has quite a bit - it is the TCSounds TC-2000 - 28mm Xmax so it needs it, especially helps since I am running it in a sealed box around 1.25 cu ft and it would really like more (ported preferably...maybe this summer, but I'll lose all trunk space).
Sub is now listed under another company and called the REVO now if you were curious: http://www.audiopulse.com/products/subwoofer-drivers/revo
9formula4 03-28-2008, 02:21 PM i have 2 10" thunder 4500 series MTXs in trapezoid boxes that i bought from my brother. I turned them upside down and sideways in the well with my amp mounted on top of them. They are basically downfiring. They hit HARD. Wish i didnt have all the parts from the upper end teardown of the motor in the car right now or id take pics.

Hacksaw, if you're careful, or a dremel will work great for cutting out the trim panel to make way for the changer.
I have directions on my website on how to mount an amp in the tire. Here's a direct link:
http://www.banddirector.cz28.com/photo3.html
As far as actually mounting the changer, the stock changer has different mounts than if you buy it from GM, so if you got two little brackets, you can just make a mounting board, secure it, and then mount the changer to the mouting board.
