What years did GM put 454's into Camaro's ?RedHottG2 03-13-2008, 03:39 PM Been trying to figure this out so I thought I would just ask here. Thanks guys! yournamehere 03-13-2008, 06:21 PM Been trying to figure this out so I thought I would just ask here. Thanks guys! I should get some big Camaro reference book, but here's what I know about big block Camaros. In 1969 some 61 or so received aluminum ZL 1's 427 ci. For 1970 the big block option was the 396 ( really a 402 ) . 1971 a few 402's. Yenko produced some 454's in the 70's, probably some other dealerships too. I don't think Chevrolet put a 454 in a Camaro. Don't let it stop you, though. Stephen 87 IROC 03-13-2008, 08:47 PM 1970 was the only production year the Camaro got a 454. LSWHO 03-13-2008, 09:28 PM They were just getting into the bigger big blocks into the camaro and firebird when the emissions thing hit them hard. Firebirds were the only cars coming out with 400+ cubes in the mid 70s. shoebox 03-13-2008, 11:19 PM What years did GM put 454's into Camaro's ? There may have been dealer converted Camaros (like the Berger), but AFAIK, none rolled from the factory with a 454. cause4panic 03-14-2008, 04:10 PM none rolled from the factory with a 454. What about the copo's ? Green96Z 03-14-2008, 06:59 PM What about the copo's ? The COPOs are the only Camaros that would have received a 454. I know no Camaro before 1970 got one, but I don't know any years other than 70 that did. They were just getting into the bigger big blocks into the camaro and firebird when the emissions thing hit them hard. Firebirds were the only cars coming out with 400+ cubes in the mid 70s. Nope. Corvettes had the 454 from 70-74. The full-sized Impala's got it all the way until 76. And don't forget the Chevelles had them too, especially the rare 70 Chevelle SS. shoebox 03-14-2008, 08:48 PM What about the copo's ? AFAIK, they were not available as even a COPO in an f-body. I meant mid-late 70s. angel71rs 03-15-2008, 01:43 AM 454 was never factory installed in Camaros. You could buy them from dealerships like Baldwin-Motion with the 454 installed, but they were swaps. Only engines larger than 402s factory installed in Camaros were the COPO 427s. NukeFPE 03-15-2008, 09:21 PM X2 what angel71rs said. Baldwin-Motion installed them in brand new Camaros in the early 70's ~ They sold them as Phase I, II, or III depending upon the build up ~ they were some wicked street machines for the day | ||
