Of course it's from an indirect source (at least that's how it appears), but this camaro5 member claims that his cousin was in attendance of a recent executive meeting in Durham and that the LS3 will be the V8, V6 DI engine, with 4 piston front brakes.

Everybody keeps referring to it as that...imagine the bad press if the mainstream called it the 2010 Camaro..."Camaro Delayed until December 2010", blah, blah, blah, blah - GAG!!!

And though this isn't 'official' info...it does sound about right....

I've have believed the base V8 would be the LS3 for sometime. Just makes sense IMO. And the spy pics of the engine seemed to be a copy of the 3.6 DI engine cover used on Caddy's variant.

Interesting to hear about the race only Camaro. That's news to me. Dodge has already made plans for the Challenger to have a race only model and now Chevy has a Camaro. Wonder if they will someday meet in a sanctioned and lightly corp. sponsored event. Return of Trans Am...

I STILL hope that the base V8 is the LS3, because that would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, mean that the base V8 would be packing 400 hp, at least (the reason goes without saying)...no matter what this guy says...it's NOT gospel.:alert: Most of the things that he said are things that we (meaning most people on this board) have already mentioned. LS3, location of gas filler door, 4 piston brakes, remote start on the key fob, etc. Aside from obvious things, like pre-pro vs. production, location of gas filler door, etc., I'm not getting my hopes up on anything until I hear it from Scott.

Same here, this quote and the other stuff about his dad with the Viper, gonna trade it in on a ZR1 and blah, blah, blah...

Along with this
one more thing...all new rear suspension setup on the mustang much like the shelby

I'm pretty sure everybody here knows a Shelby doesn't employ anything special when it comes to the rear suspension. Its the same 3-link found on all current Mustangs using stiffer bushings, bigger axle bearings, and posibly a stronger 3rd member case. Thats it, matter of fact the Bullitt uses the exact same rearend.

I have believed this since speculation began. Although I typically wouldn't believe a post like that, I believe what is posted in this one. Also, to validate Fbodfather's "forget all you know about engines comment", I believe this version of the LS3 will have active fuel management since gas will be $4 by the time this car meets the road.

I sure hope they put some huge tire-smoking V8 in there for you guys.

I think I'm going to be pretty happy if I buy one with the DI 3.6.

I'm also secretly hoping for an OMGWTFBBQ engine option like a diesel 6 cylinder, or a hybrid/electric setup but that's pretty much NOT going to happen.

i can believe this. LS3 as a base V8, and a DI V6. Sounds like the logical powerplants to use in the next gen Camaro, and i dont see what would stop these engines from moving into this car.

Corvette is the Flagship, and has gone sky-high in horsepower with the LS9, so whats the stop the people at GM from using a little old LS3 for the base V8 Camaro.

So if it is/was a "leak", and it was "taken care of". One is to assume that this was true info and someone has been punished for "leaking" said info. Which would then lead to me owning a 400+ HP Camaro. Which in turn would cause me to be in the market for new tires and a credit card dedicated to gas purchases.

Since so much about the car is already known, IF they know what engines they are going to use, i don't know why they don't say so. If it is the LS3, and the DI V6, those are great engines. And they DI V6 sure beats Ford's base engine.

No reason to let anybody (i.e. competitors) know anything until the last possible second. That way there's less time to alter strategy, which increases chances of competitor failure.:p And who's to say that they're 100% DONE with everything...

I don't want to know anything, yet. Call me crazy - but I like surprises. In Sept, it will all hit us so fast, and hard - we'll be crawling over each other to get into one of these cars next year. Ahhhhhh....I can't wait. (but I can;))

2008 Pontiac G8 Buzz Station

Rattle off the specs of the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT and you'd swear you're talking about BMW's new M3 sedan.

The 2008 G8 packs four doors, rear-wheel drive, a big V8, a six-speed automatic transmission and near 50/50 weight distribution. GM has even gone so far as to equip the G8 with a twin-pivot MacPherson strut front suspension with tons of caster, which is exactly the equation that provides BMW with its legendary steering feel.

Just two line items would throw you off, though: The V8 is a stump-pulling 6.0 liters large and the price tag, not so much at $29,995.

It's an absolute stretch to think that GM has anything but a winner on its hands. But who needs to hypothesize? We could attest to the G8's capabilities before it debuted at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show.

That's because the G8, like the ill-fated GTO, will be built in GM's Holden factory in Australia. In fact, it's already in production down there, so we made the trip to do some preproduction testing. Twice. Once to throw around the 2007 Vauxhall VXR8 version, which is sold in the United Kingdom, and a second time to test the Australian-market Holden Commodore SS.

Despite having to use our left hand to shift, we were able to crack off a 5.3-second burst to 60 mph and blow through the quarter-mile in just 14.1 seconds. Yep, there's something about throwing a Corvette engine into a sedan that's so bad it's oh so good. The big news is that this Zeta platform will also cradle the V8 of the much-anticipated 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

Though the 362-horsepower V8 has the singular duty of making the G8 scramble, Pontiac's displacement-on-demand technology will allow the giant engine to run on four cylinders when the full 391 pound-feet of torque is unnecessary. And if you're not into dusting WRXs at every stoplight, there's the base Pontiac G8. Priced at $27,595, it'll be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 261 hp at 6,300 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm. We figure the six should be good for a 7.5-second 0-60-mph run.

"This car is everything we think a Pontiac should be," said Bob Lutz, GM's vice chairman of global product development, at the G8's 2007 Chicago Auto Show debut. "It's a return to tradition. And it's what Pontiac fans have been clamoring for for years. An athletic, beautiful, powerful rear-wheel-drive sedan."

The G8 promises to be a looker, too. The flared fenders add a bit of DTM touring car appeal and the G8 GT's sinister hood scoops will give your buddy in the BMW not one, not two, but three sets of symmetrical nostrils approaching in his rearview. From the rear, its quad exhaust, clear taillights and chopped window line are all attitude.

According to Mark LaNeve, GM's vice president of North American sales, the G8 is a car that will pioneer a new direction for Pontiac toward rear-wheel drive, emphasizing true performance at affordable prices.

It's about time.
