Hey y'all. I have a stock 2001 V6 Camaro convertible. I have done absoultely no mods to it with the exception of the whisper lid. I noticed a slight power gain, if any after installing it. The engine is slightly louder when idling and accelerating. I think, if I remember correctly, I nabbed it for $110 brand new. Was it really worth it? I seem to think not... I mean I wasn't expecting a huge power gain, but something more than what I have now... especially shelling out the $$$ for it. I didn't do the ghetto whisper lid because I wanted the look of the lid(says 3800 II). I am thinking about keeping my car stock.. I am considering selling this part. Was it worth it for all y'all that got it in your car? I bought it because my car was heavy enough as it is since it is a convertible. I thought it would help a little. I mean, realistically speaking, has it improved your 1/4 mile times or done anything that might be worth it? It probably has for those of you who have the ram air and exhaust upgrade, but how bout for it being the only mod in the car? Has it saved you guys on gas mileage any? What do you think if I put the stock intake back... would I be sorry if I sold the whisper lid? I don't mind the car being more quiet(not that it's loud now anyways)... as long a it doesn't hurt the performance. Let me know what y'all think.

P.S. Would a Holley Powershot Air Filter save me on gas mileage as well? Even if I put the air filter in a stock air box would I get a few more mpg? Thanks.

its worth it, but if you really want to feel gains you are going to have to do a lot of modding to get any real power gains. all in all, its worth it, but you could use alot more:D

The lid is considered a very cheap mod for the amount of power you get so if you think it was a rip off I wouldn't spend money on doing any other mods.

What exactly were you expecting? It isn't a supercharger, you aren't going to get huge gains from just a Lid.
I had my car actually ON a dyno when I installed my Whisper Lid, and it was the first mod I did. Before the install, my car dynoed at 151 horsepower, a little on the weak side. After, it was 160 hp, about what it should have been to start with. So I picked up 9 rwhp on my 99 A4 Firebird, not a huge gain but certainly worth the money (and I paid $125 for my Lid).
I also works well with a cold air setup (such as the SLP cold air kit that I installed a few weeks later); I didn't dyno it that time but it knocked .4 off my track times.

I had a lid w/K&N but sold the lid and kept the K&N. There is not that much of a difference at all.

But, it will not hurt you, either, so I'd suggest keeping it. I would've kept it, but a guy offered me a good deal on it :D, so I went ahead and sold it.

Later! ;)

K&N, higher flowing muffler, ram air, and a whisper lid have made a huge difference for me. I can feel a big improvement in throttle response; also in low end TQ and high end HP. The engine is noticably louder too, you can hear the air being pushed through (pushed through now, instead of the engine having to pull air through because of the stock restrictions).

"K&N, higher flowing muffler, ram air, and a whisper lid have made a huge difference for me."

Glad I found this site. I'm thinking of doing the above, except the muffler. Didn't cross that path yet - is it worth it? I want a throatier sound to the car (not a tin can sound) and gain a little more HP. Is that the way to go? Whisper Lid 1st (w or w/out filter), Ram Air 2nd...then think muffler? I have a 99 3.8 Camaro too.

Any input appreciated! I am beginning my quest - I'm done with the exterior. The car's done what I like, now its time to give back to the car - LOL.

Definitly a good mod, I put a holley power shot filter in at the same time as my lid and the exhaust was deeper as well as a little bit more acceleration. i'd do this mod again

I got a Ravin Z55 muffler (one in, dual out) and it sounds like a small block V8. It sounds great! Not sure how much more air it flows, or the HP gains...but it sounds really good.

hi guys, i don't post too much but i read all the time. i have a whisper lid, home made CAI, 3 inch I-pipe and dynomax exhaust. i don't think i noticed any difference until i had the exhaust with the i-pipe put on, the full set up makes a huge difference. just remember more air in and more air out=more combustion=more hp.
