Bleeding brakes w/ traction control?
Bleeding brakes w/ traction control?
Ok, so the manual says I need a "Tech 1" to properly bleed the brakes if I have traction control. I know why I need the tool, but anyone do it without the tool? Or where I can borrow or rent one? Also, I think I read that ATE Superblue is the best fluid to use, anyone use anything else?
I take it your car has the NW9 option
The system is Delco ABS VI (UART)

You could use my Tech 1 but I'm in NJ

I'll be doing the C5 brake upgrade (UMI) this spring. I was under the impression that as long as the ignition wasn't turned on before completing all the work including bleeding, there wouldn't be any ABS problems. This assumes I don't let the master cylinder resevoir go empty or some other careless act. Also, somewhere it was mentioned that if the ABS unit does lose it's "neutral" position that "hammering' the brake pedal with the ignition on but not starting the engine can sometimes recenter it. Any truth to that?

yup, as long as you dont let the whole system go dry you should be fine. mine was fine and i have had the brakes off twice. a good idea is to put slight pressure on the brake pedal with a rod or something to hold it there before you disconnect anything, this will keep the fluid from completely draining out of the master
The front brakes bleed easy enough its the rear brakes that give you problems.
I got my tech 1 off of ebay it was listed as gm tec scanner it came with the VIM (OBD2 adapter) and a mass storage cartridge. I got it for less than $200.
