D or OD?

Which is better to drive around town with, Drive or Overdrive? I completely mixed up on which one saves gas and stuff. I like Drive cause my car is an A4, so i hit higher RPMS which is good i guess:confused: so which one is better?

Leave it in OD.....

If the car needs a lower gear, it will downshift. If you want to "fly", give it gas, and it will downshift.

If its just crusing, it will go to OD.......and give you TC lockup...and this will save you fuel..........and get rid of the TC slippage, and allow you to take off...... :)

Why u would want to drive with high rpms, is beyond me, that extra wear from the pistons going up and down.

OD :)

I do 90% of my driving on the freeway..so 95% of my driving is in OD.

The other 5% is in D...just for the kicks.

thanks a lot. some people told me that when it is in D it reaches higher rpm so i will be going faster before it downshifts lol. i think i will leave it in OD. thanks a lot:bow:

use D if ur carrieing a load though-a trailor

On the 85 I have it just seemed to me that in around town driving the thing would go in and out of OD fairly often, which seems like extra wear. I asked a friend of mine who used to do tranny rebuilds at a GM dealership and he agrees that I will save on tranny wear by not using overdrive around town. Take that for whatever its worth, I'm sure the newer camaro's have better trannies tho.

The A4 is a pretty chill transmission around. The only reason why you'd want to drop it into D is if you wanted to race, if you're hauling a heavy load (trailer...but who tows with a Camaro?)... Also, if you're driving 45-50 on a country road and it's doing a lot of gear hunting automatically between D and OD, put it in D to save it from hunting too much.

Someone told me once that OD is a nylon gear and it is better to use it on the highway after you reach the speed you are going to stay at and D is better around town because you are stopping and going which causes more wear. Im not sure what is right here just throwing in some insight. I do do my in town driving in D though. I never noticed any diiference in the mpg's.

I put it D when I need to take a lot of people home and their **** from school. I can feel the car is slower, and doesn't brake as well from the big increase in weight. If I leave it on OD for around the town, the tranny needs to downshift a LOT because it needs more power from all that weight. On the highway with a heavy load, I go to OD, though :)

I'm sure your friends that have to sit in the back seat really appreciate it, all my friends that ride in my car, fight all night for the front, and the ones in the back bi*ch the whole way home, hee hee:D

The 3.4's downshift allll day long:)

Mine's a 2-seater, no backseat! It's either you have shotgun or you have nothin! :D

i read in the owners manual that od is the best way to go for daily driving because it saves gas...

just leave it in D,unless you drive in highway OD:p
