Comprehensive History of Camaro Concept

I sure hope this isn't a re-post... but I found this pretty cool web page via Google Images...

http://www.clanhop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1117

It's fascinating to read, and to see the images. I learned some of the inspirations of the designers, and how the concept came about. I also concluded that WOW... the concept could have ended up a LOT worse! While all the renderings in there are interesting... some just don't look right IMHO. It's really pretty profound, how well it all turned out! Enjoy

That is pretty cool.
Look at the picture with the Camaro on the frame jig there. What is that SUV in the background?

Very nice read.

I guess when the UK concept didnt quite go through, they gave it to Nissan:

 Maybe so! That is one of the alternatives I was referring to when I said "oh - could be SO much worse!" :o

I did see that. Dunno. Maybe the Saab 9-7x?

Agreed!

I thought it was interesting to see, the interior design crew had Diesel watches in mind as design cues. I can see that now, after looking at a few watches on www.diesel.com ...

Works for me.

Thanks! It's good to know.

I posted this thread because I think as time goes on, Camaro owners are going to want to have an archive of the new car's history - which is pretty profound when you think about it.

I think it would be cool too, if it were possible to go on a plant trip to Oshawa and SEE them being buit

Does anyone know if this has been possible in the past? I know some plants here in Metro Detroit do this. You can go on a plant tour of Ford River Rouge where they build Mustangs, and they used to have tours of the Pontiac Assembly plant in Pontiac, where they built Silverados....

I know it would be impossible, but I would love to place my order, drive up to Oshawa, and watch my Camaro being built - the only car I know that you can do that with is the Corvette. But, hey GM, Camaro is just as precious of a nameplate. Sure it's half the price, but just as revered. Don't you think it would be something for us to be able to watch our Camaros go from empty sub assemblies and bare steel structures to full fledged, full color Camaros?

They're spending a lot of money, keeping us working, we don't mind shaking their hands, even taking pictures with them.:)
It's good PR...
I'd love to be able to do this if or when I order my "friend"...guess now you'd a PassPort tho..

I like the seats in this one and the 5 point belts, it'd be a great option.

I actually like the body lines on this mock-up. Toss in the gills and it really looks like a 1st gen!

That's cool about the tours at International. I would gladly go pay for a passport if needed, to go see Oshawa...

Thank God Ed Welburn chose the Studio X concept, as that Design North Concept looks like a plain Jane!

Yep! It shows that overall there is good judgement by the team and leaders as a whole, that they were open to a lot of options, and that they fully explored all the alternatives. It helps in understanding how they came up with such a hit - clearly the result of a ton of internal debate and refinement!

Here's yet another article:

Seeing the above (alternative) sketch from the article, it hit me for the first time that the new Camaro's taillights pay homage to the 2nd gen cars...

...anybody else notice some of the posts in this thread (
http://www.clanhop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1117 ) ...just after the Camaro post...? (I don't know that board, ...but apparently they aren't impressed, ...to each their own...)

Thanks for posting the different links, ...if you really study the lines of the concepts, ...the taillamps, the angles, etc., ...and which one they ended up with, ...it truely is a credit to the engineering team for coming through with the final design they did...

There's no point in reading much into that. Which complaint (of the grand total of THREE) seemed most on the mark? The one where they said "i dont noe if this s true but i dont find it that amazing mayb cos it s a chrysler."... the one who said he thought the concept costed too much, or the one who said it was "too... futuristic"?

I'm not a frequent visitor to any site with an intro like this on its forum home page:

By joining our free community filled with active members and moderately psychotic people who may or may not stab you if you meet them in real life, you will have access to post topics, play arcade games, buy items in our store with the points you receive from posting, communicate privately with other members (PM), respond to polls, upload your own photos and access many other awesome features.

So I'd recommend taking any opinions posted there with a major grain of salt ;)

Nonetheless it was nice of them to post it....
