What stops the window when it reaches the bottom of the door?

I recently did the window relay mod so it has plenty of power. The problem is on the DS, when I let the Auto down feature engage, the window goes well past the weatherstripping and continues downward until it hits a rubber stop in the bottom of the door, studders for a moment and then stops. What is supposed to stop the motor once the window is sompletely down when the auto down is engaged???? Is it motor RPM, a certain amount of time, or until the resistance is too great(ie the rubber stop). Thanks!

excess current.

There are adjustable stops at both the bottom and top of the window run. When the window hits either of these stops the motor pulls or draws more current which trips the internal switch. It's kind of like an automatic circuit breaker that trips and reset itself.

Interesting question. I soldered the bi-metal strip solid in the motor because I'm cheap and want all the life from the oem part I can get. The purpose of the bi-metal strip is to break the connection when excess motor load creates enough heat to separate the two parts of the strip. Once warped apart, current stops to the motor even if the switch is engaged. It would seem that something inside the motor senses the current interruption and negates the auto-down function.

Since you notice a shuddering at the bottom of the travel, I would purposefully reverse the switch for a moment once the window clears the weather strip. BTW, my window goes well below the weather stripping too. No shuddering though...

I would think it is the express down module. It obviously maintains operation of the motor when you release the switch. Perhaps it is still excess current, but it is the module and not the motor thermal relay that releases.
