I used to have stock steering wheel, how ever the leather was torn up and abused so I decided to get a new wheel. I talked to a few folks who said the 95+ wheel would be a direct swap, so I found a deal on a perfect ebony leather wheel from an 01 Trans Am. Install goes great up until I try to hook the air bag up, apparently some time in 99+ they changed the connector from the clock spring that hooks in to the back of the air bag. So my air bag hasn't been hooked up, don't drive the car so it doesn't matter but I would still like it to function. Here are my options thus far
1. Find the new style connector for the air bag clock spring to the air bag and swap it in. I could take the voltage at the connector, the wiring to the connector seems to be the exact same down to the wires used and color. Only potential draw back to this, I would have to cut the old connector off and splice then new one in. That kinda sucks making such changes to the air bag clock spring.
2. Find a 95-98 Bag, this would be super easy, minus the connector, from the pictures I see it bolts on the exact same way. So hopefully it would bolt up. Big Draw Back, the color wont match, I can do the best I can BUT the graphite is lighter then ebony, so it wont be a perfect match.
3. Find the 99+ clock spring and tr to swap that in to my column, doubt its the same so this really isnt an option.
