Is this a real ss camaro?

Can someone tell me if this is a real SS camaro? I never saw an SS in that color before.

Looks like the special monterey maroon metallic.

Oh, and this is the wrong forum. This section is for LSx specific engine tech only, ask a mod to move it to the correct forum, they'll know, or just restart it in the Lounge.

My guess is that it is not a real SS because the SS badge on the dash is missing, I don't see the SS add-on manual with the owners manual, and the tail pipes are Z28 speciffic. The wheels are also not GM chrome ZR1 wheels, they're aftermarket.

Price a is a but high even for an SS.

The very best way to tell is call SLP with the Vin and they can check to see whether it's real or not.

Also aftermarket spoilers are solid 1 piece units and the factory ones are 2 piece with a seam across the back. Its sure looks suspicious.

It also says it has 16" wheels, assuming that correct, I beleive that only the 96 SS came with the 16" ZR1's. Also, Ive never seen an SS in that color. My money is on no.

Those exhaust tips stick back way too far and whats up with the cowl induction hood. If I bought a SS, I would want the SS hood, exhaust, interior badging, etc.

Also noticed that they didn't take a pict. of the RPO codes on on the clove box lid. Kind of makes you wonder why.

the Z28 came with 16in wheels the 96and 97 SS came with 17 in wheels

The SS coupes has 17x9" wheels. The SS convertibles used 16x8" wheels.

According to the "Camaro White Book", there were no maroon SS's built.

dont forget the fact that the red bowtie is missing from the rear SS badging...

Smart money says it's not an SS (it's not advertised as one), If you like it, buy it. I say it's a bit overpriced though.

Only the LT1 SS spoiler had the seam. It was very different from the LS1 SS spoiler. The LT1 SS spoiler also did not have the two center posts that the LS1 version had.

My 97ss was a Z28 delivered to a MI SLP site for SS conversion. Some of the options were gm factory options @ dealer order such as... Bilstein Level_2 suspension, Hurst shifter (not worth the money). All mods can be had in the after market world. B.
