Do you guys think there will be more than one version of the camaro like the mustang or will there only be one like Dodge?

Id prefer that they have a model to compete with all the mustangs, inluding the shelby!

what do you guys think?

or has chevy already said somthing about this

I don't think they've come out and said it, but it's a very safe bet that Camaro will have a model to compete w/ Mustang at every performance level.

There always has been Z28/SS/IROC/RS/Berlinetta as models, as well as aftermarket Camaros, modified by Berger, Yenko and others. They have always been aimed squarely at the Mustang, so I don't think there will be any need to worry. Have faith. ;)

The challenger is only going to have "one model" for about 6 months, then there will be at least 3. Camaro will have at least 3 (if you don't count the rag tops as variants.)

Expect a model to compete with the V6 stang, V8 GT, and possibly a GT-500 fighter, although i suspect there may be another between the V8 GT and the GT-500 fighter.

They won't have to use as many variants as Ford. most of the mustangs can be lumped in at the GT level give or take a tiny bit. They only need three models...V6/regular V8 (400hp-450hp?), high end V8(550hp)

As someone stated, the Challenger is only going to be SRT8 for teh first few months to build excitement.
Then we will see V6 and RT models soon after.
Expect Camaro to come in more then one flavor.
In a related note, why dont people belive that this carwill come in more then one trim? Everyone I talk to says "wel they probably wont offer a V6" um ITS A MUSTANG FIGHTER!! This goes along the lines that they wont make one for under 40k, and some other folk lore....its annoying.

Well i think theyre gonna do at least one trim with stripes but i dont think they'll do much more than that. and whoever you talk to about V-6's is smoking somthing because a few of my friends are getting a mustang V-6 and im sure ford sells alot of them because of how affordable they are.

i think its gonna come down to look, affordability and reliability and in my mind i think Chevy does alot better job with all 3 of those. Just look at the Malibu the interior is on a Caddillac level and its half the price. and my dad had a 01 vette for 5 years put 110 thousand miles on it and NEVER had a single problem.

Ford better watch out!!!

My guess... and this is only a guess... GM will market the Camaro similarly to how they market other vehicles, although the "names" may change:

Base Camaro (similar to LS)
Camaro RS (similar to LT with optional V8)
Camaro SS
Camaro Z28 (similar to Corvette Z06)

However, the thing to keep in mind is that there will be a "comparable" Camaro at every level a Mustang currently exists.

well if the Z28 will compete with the shelby or will it be in its own league, i think i chevy can have their own league they would pull away in the muscle car wars :)

Everyone has it mostly covered so far... Expect the Camaro to match up/compete with the Mustang. Also... you mention Dodge having only one model, but that is a marketing ploy for the first model year. Later this year you will see the competing models of the Challenger to match up w/ the available SRT8.

I wouldn't expect camaro to be = or > the vette. If you believe Car and Driver, the Fbods becoming too similar to the vette is what killed off the fbods in 02.

While the LS1 is similar in power to the C5 Corvette, and as Scott has recently told us, they are also able to BEAT the C5 on a road course, that is no where near the reason why the Fbody was killed off. Lack of support and no financial backing were the main contributors IMO.

I hope it gets a lot of attention from other companies. I know GMMG has plans, but I hope other companies like that will come up with some awesome ideas for other versions of this car. The mustang seems to have so many its crazy(saleen, roush, etc).

I'm all for these trim levels, but as interesting side note, wasn't the 1973 Camaro Type LT the first Chevrolet to use an "LT" designation? And now it's on Chevys across the board - but maybe not Camaro :)

It struck me while watching Barrett-Jackson this weekend. They had a prototype Challenger there, and it's going to be $37,000 with the 425 horse engine. Hey the Camaro will likely have about that much power in it's second tier (maybe Z28) model.

Camaro 300 hp V6 > Mustang 210 hp V6

Camaro 430 hp V8 > Mustang 300 hp V8

Camaro 550 hp SCV8 > Mustang 500 hp SCV8

I personally wouldn't see a problem if GM stayed the course and went with LS, LT, SS and Z28. :D

I thought the Muskrat was coming out with a hp increase with the refreshed model in 2010.

1972 was the last year for the SS and the Type LT took over the Z27 RPO for 1973. Z27 was available on the Z28 and RS as well as the base model since it was a "luxury touring" package rather than a model per se.

There was a guy in my dorm back in college that had a really, really nice 1973 Type LT, but it was an awful brown/bronze color with a fawn brown interior. The pinnacle of 70s.
