Bayer-Z28 01-19-2008, 09:01 AM I feel like writing something...
Granted I haven't been on this site as long as some but I've been around f-Bodies since I was a toddler. I've owned 2 F-Bodies and the passion seems to be almost unyielding. GM has such a backing behind this vehicle that they have spent the past how many years perfecting it. The time spent with out an F-Body at the dealerships has created a lot of anticipation. Leaving a lot of us almost stalking the dealerships waiting for some kind of sign.
The vivid imagination pictures a 2010 model Camaro sitting in the showroom. The smell of the new car is an intoxicating aroma. The excitement of that aroma is amplified when the essence of a NEW generation of muscle car is with in arms reach. The paint is still not quite cured, but the dream of applying a fresh coat of wax is overpowering. The scent of detailing products and the scent of a NEW muscle car is enough to almost make someone cry.
This has been a long time coming. The passion is still there, the respect is still there, the feeling of thrust is unmatched. There may be no other such feeling than being gently pressed into the new seat while listening to the symphony of eight cylinders singing that glorious tune. Caressing the throttle and applying subtle changes to the leather wrapped steering wheel. You run your thumbs over the gold Chevrolet emblem in the center of the wheel, almost a caressing touch. Selecting the next forward cog, you gently ease into the throttle, that familiar song emanates through the passenger compartment once more.
Taking a quick glance upward you see the trees through the open sunroof. You can't help but smile with a sense of satisfaction. You have waited for this moment for a long time and now it is here. Take in the details, each one combines to create a euphoric experience. The passion and the overall experience is almost too much to take in with just the eyes alone. Your senses are at their peak, your sense of touch is amplified, your ears can detect the slightest change in throttle, the aroma almost seems to clear your sinuses, the leather seat seems to hug your entire body. One hand on the shifter, one hand on the wheel, one foot for the gas, the other for the clutch...
Take it in... Enjoy the full experience....
You are driving a new Camaro...
:)
theroad64 01-19-2008, 09:11 AM Well-written piece! Reminds of the new C6 I had the chance to drive! Talk about etching a grin.
Joel98Z 01-19-2008, 10:02 AM Vey Nice!
Bayer-Z28 01-19-2008, 10:55 AM The once familiar aroma has ceased to fill the ever changing dealership showroom. The future is here, the future is now. Soon enough, my friends, that same aroma of assembly oil and detailing products will yet again peak our senses. The production time has left us salivating like a pack of hungry wolves awaiting a new arrival. The scent can be picked up even with time. The imagination runs ramped with thoughts of modifications and to what the future will bring. Thoughts of liberation and content at the hand of the awaiting prize.
Patience....... Patience..........
When that faithful time graces our lives, the anticipation will have passed. We will then know for sure. What greater feeling is there than the unknown? The unknown brings uncertainty, but I assure you there will be no mistake about what is to come. The sheer merit of accomplishment will be to us all. This is an energizing time. Looking to what will unfold before us is the excitement we crave. Is it really uncertainty or fear? Fear not being negative, but unknowing. The anticipation has left our senses battered, but only to be alleviated with time. Looking to the past, the present seems never ending.
Patience........Patience........
There will soon be a once familiar sense of awe upon the awaited date. Affirmation of the finished product will leave us all speechless, I am sure of it. Awe and acceptance felt upon your first glance of a new generation of Muscle. The senses are racing upon what you behold. The NEW generation is UPON US ALL!!
Tell me now if the awaited time was worth the delay....
:)
Fbodfather 01-19-2008, 11:10 AM well DANG, Bayer -- you almost made me 'leak thru the eyes' --
That's EXACTLY the feeling we want our owners to feel when they get their new Camaro.................
GREAT piece of writing! thank you!
:bow::bow::bow:
Bayer-Z28 01-19-2008, 11:14 AM ^ It is an Honor to have your seal of acceptance! :D
That gave me goose bumps writing it and I almost leaked as well upon proof reading. Hence the  at the end...
Thank you again..
AZ2ENVY 01-19-2008, 08:27 PM Thats a damn fine Masterpiece you have written there  You described my EXACT feelings !!!
UHP-CAMARO 01-19-2008, 08:31 PM Long Read...Maybe. But Very Well Written.
POWERFREAK 01-19-2008, 08:42 PM Nice read...thank you.
When I read threads like this it makes me forget all the "I hate the interior, I'm not buying one" threads and just think ahead to that day that I'll be picking mine up.
I've posted this in another thread a few weeks back....but it sums up what I'll be thinking the first time I turn the key...(in the words of that chick in the CTS commercial)..."the real question is when you turn your car on, does it return the favor." That and FINALLY THE WAIT IS OVER! (as I drop the hammer out of the dealership).
Rob V 01-19-2008, 10:08 PM The only downside about getting my new Camaro is that I KNOW the folks at the stealership are going to be mad at me as I leave two strips of rubber in their parking lot.
Dragoneye 01-20-2008, 12:31 AM I like reading things like this. Thank you Bayer. You've just put feelings that have been swelling inside me into words. Something that I just didn't have time, nor the patience to do....
Wonderful piece. Like a cloud that we can all sit on, and stare down at....'people';)
2KZ28 01-20-2008, 04:33 AM well DANG, Bayer -- you almost made me 'leak thru the eyes' --

Just wait until I take the left-seat for the first time. You guys will be wanting your read-time back. I will write a mini-novel!
Bayer -- EXCELLENT post. Its about the passion, not the particulars. If you dont "get it" you WON'T "Get IT!!" That speaks volumes in itself.

Bayer-Z28 01-21-2008, 12:18 AM THanx guys... I appreciate the feedback..
Sometimes I'm in the mood to write.. When I am, that happens... Feelings seem to bleed through my fingers.
Shellhead 01-21-2008, 09:32 AM Awesome post Bayer!! You should read that for the podcast!

Wow, what a corny line!!! :p You think we're a bunch of chicks that are gonna melt for that crap?!  No, I will not go on a date with you ..... I'd be afraid of your "feelings" bleeding all over me! ;)
j/k
You're right about the car though ..... I think once people get their hands on it, they'll forget the petty whines/complaints/dislikes (assuming, of course, that the final product has all the "little things" wrapped up as best as possible) and people will simply ENJOY the car for what it's meant for ..... cruising, commuting, and kicking Mustang ass ;).
Only ANOTHER year to go ;) .......... good thing my finances aren't quite in order anyway!
dacook 01-23-2008, 01:24 PM ...When that faithful time graces our lives, the anticipation will have passed.... :)
I just hope the reality isn't anti-climactic.
Sometimes the anticipation is the best part.

You are driving a new Camaro...
:)
Great post! I still remember the first day I drove home the 1999 Firebird Formula I ordered and bought new, way back when. What a feeling that was! It was as if the Air Force handed me an F-16 and said - "Here you go. Now go have some fun!"
I can't help but think sometimes, what it will be like driving my Camaro home the first time.
I picture the salesman handing me the keys, while he yammers on about the availability of oil change discounts and other fluff. I'll be standing there staring at my new car, its sharky front end and hulking muscular rear quarters and swoopy roofline. Impatient, I'll activate the remote start. Oops! Sorry I have to go! Bye bye now, yes you're welcome and you have a good day too sir.
Walk up to the car... already idling with that famous and intimidating small-block Chevy rumble. I walk around it once, just a final check for bird poo, or anything else in its flawless, mirror-flat paint applied with care at the award-winning Oshawa complex. Nothing wrong... not even by my anal, extreme car-geek standards. Just a perfect new honking muscle car. I pop open the hood. The new V8 hums happily along, all its aluminum shining in the sun. The hood closes with a solid, reassuring thump.
By this point I notice the salesman staring worriedly at me. Is something wrong? Nope :D ...just admiring the car. He's cool though, and I get the impression he understands. It turns out he's already sold dozens of 2010 Camaros... and he sees this happen a lot! He returns my "thumb up" as I hop in the car.
I gaze around the interior. The new-car aroma is cool of course... but what really strikes me is how tight and perfect everything fits. It's as if the entire interior was molded in one big magic operation. No panel gaps... no loose bits... no clunky clackity controls like I've seen in previous cars. GM has made strides in quality - and it really shows. I struggle for a minute to confirm - is that all I paid for this? Seems like the interior of a $40,000 Cadillac. Yes!
Out of habit - I try all the interior controls and functions. (More worried looks from the salesman... now he's back in the showroom though, with the sales manager beside him). Another thumb-up for him - and we all grin :)
Everything works. Somehow I'm not surprised. Seats - are wonderful. Visibility - vastly improved over my 4gen. Stereo - awesome sound, richness, balance, features. Argh - I conclude it's drowning out the engine's burble! So I turn it off.
Finally I put the A6 in gear and pull away, to the relief of the showroom audience. Just like in my previous test drive, the car pulls smoothly and firmly, more like a V12 than a V8. My first stupid grin escapes and cannot be restrained :D
I fiddle with the interior electronics as I wait at the light. Thumbing thru the driver info center and other displays, I think back to all the comments of the nail-biters on the web discussion forums and snicker. Wonder what they are thinking now? :p (Make mental note to post some digital pix of these cool gadgets when I get home, to assist in their crow dinners and snacks :D ).
Finally the moment I've waited for, that wonderful feeling of freedom I get in any sporty car when I get one on a freeway ramp. Gosh, we'll need to hurry up so we can merge (lame justification to self). Better put the hammer down. The Camaro's drive-by-wire throttle and advanced powertrain controls respond instantly at my command. The dominating power and torque of the aluminum V8, refined by decades of loving work by GM's dedicated engineers, pushes me back in the sculpted leather seat. The engine and exhaust make that intoxicating, wild-animal roar and away we GO!
Up to freeway speed, I let up and turn on the cruise control so I can fiddle some more with the cool gadgets. Suddenly I notice - where has all the noise gone? The cabin is whisper-quiet. None of the old creaks, whistles and wind rush of my old 4gen. It's a welcome change though and it helps me to stop missing my beloved Firebird Formula.
Time to get off the freeway. I notice for the first time, the awesome brakes on this car. Well-modulated... but I can also feel, there's a deep reserve of massive stopping power in there, like the 05 GTO that I had briefly. Ugh. I anticipate with disdain, my least favorite part of my route home - the patched and potholed section on our local two-lane. Whoosh. Wow - did I cross it? I look out the rear-view mirror - has it been repaved? No. Then I remember - this new Camaro has an IRS - OF COURSE it will sail right over such things!
It's a wonderful day - full of sun and songbirds. I roll open the sunroof and listen to the V8's addictive song as we cruise thru town. A few teenagers notice as I roll by downtown. I don't typically pay much attention to such things... but I notice two of them staring as they tap on the shoulders of their pals. I hear a couple woops and shouts as I go by, and get another stupid grin I cannot control :D
Finally I get home. I pull into the garage, and notice how neatly the car fits in its stall, despite the roomy interior. This no doubt, thanks to the long wheelbase and modern design.
Nervous - I pop the hood again and check all the fluids, a patent waste of time it turns out, since everything is still perfect. I wash the car its first time, removing the light coat of dust/dirt that I would not let the dealer touch lest they do something stupid with a polishing wheel or errant dirty rag. Is the paint really as perfect as it seemed? Yes!
By this time the wife and kids are home. We all pile into the new Camaro to go for a celebratory first dinner ride. All passengers notice right away, the improvements made in the new generation. My wife thanks me for having a much flatter place to put her feet. My two sons thank me for putting an end to t-top wind blast. And we have a peaceful dinner at our favorite restaurant, while I watch out the window at the small crowd gathered around my car

Bayer-Z28 01-23-2008, 03:17 PM ^ Wind noise of the 4th gen.. I hear that... Litteraly.
Good post... :D
LS1Kid717 01-24-2008, 12:24 AM reading this REALLY REALLY makes me want to just hold off on an F-body until this car comes out, and i can finance it and own it brand freaking new instead of a used 4th gen  nice post bayer!
mzgp5x 01-24-2008, 11:08 AM I always play ACDC (for those about to rock, I salute you/ or, Hells Bells) before I lite up my 97ss 4th gen Camaro. (383 - D1/ M6 and many mods) Open the dumps, turn on both pumps, and lite it up. A real head rush ready to burn pavement. My Camaro, my statement. The NEW 5th is nice, but not for me. A new Camaro would never satisfy me. Mine was new in 1997 and was stock for 1 year. "Camaro" is a start point (clean sheet) for your own creation/ statement. I hope gm is getting that right and providing the mods (that would be a good money maker for them). My Camaro is a rolling experiment, and, a report card for my own Engineering creativity. Respected by very few, but, not many (sad). As they say... "Out of a job, keep buying foreign."

Well I care! Sorry to have neglected. I agree about the Haiku idea. I'll have to think about it though... been a while since I wrote a poem. Sounds like a good idea though!
Bayer-Z28 01-27-2008, 08:33 PM ^ I saw and read your post, I just didn't want o post whore or be a glory hog.. I was trying to get into peoples heads to quit bickering about the interior or the shark fina antenna and just be happy for the car's return..

On a separate note...
Maybe even a "Good job Scott/Gm" would be due.. I didn't see ONE of those on here... EVAR... Or not that I remember.. We gotta back these people because they DO have the power to scrap the car BASED on the general consensus. = People BITCHING about the CAR!!!
STOP BITCHING ABOUT TO THE DAMN INTERIOR!!!! I KNOW some or most of us are really passionate about this car and are concerned, but cripes, the bitching has gotten old! :irk: Like I told Chris and Jason in the Podcast, I don't go into these forums very often because most of the ideas are beaten to death.. AND I don't like to see people bitching about the damn interior..
IT'S NOT DONE YET!!
Admin/Mods: I apologize for swearing, but you know where I'm coming from.. Sorry, I've just been in RANT mode since I woke up this morning.
We have some VERY powerful people that read these boards. That is probably WHY we voice our concerns because we know they will be read.. But that's enough, you've gotten your point across, 80% of the people do NOT like the interior.. Enough with complaining about the interior, I'd just be happy to see the new Camaro in the showroom.
[/RANT]

Well I for one am glad to offer props to GM and their design team. They have done a great job, and I have complete faith the final production car will be every bit as much a stunner as was the concept.
I hope we don't have more debate about the 'interior' or whatever else, in this thread. Why not just give that a rest?
I hope it's ok Bayer - I don't have time to start a separate thread. So I'm injecting a little Haiku right here :)
(sorry. I'm a rank amateur at this. I read advice at http://www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/haiku/haiku.html but I doubt it will be 17 syllables :D )
the howling Camaro -
struggling for traction,
rockets toward a summer sunset
:D
Bayer-Z28 01-27-2008, 08:54 PM ^ Yeah.. Haiku accepted.. :D
I hope some of these interior threads get locked.. I'm just S & T of hearing about it..
BigDarknFast 01-27-2008, 09:01 PM my waxing is done -
now the Camaro glows
and autumn leaves dance from its sharp curves
Bayer-Z28 01-27-2008, 09:10 PM ^ Nice! :D
BigDarknFast 01-27-2008, 11:29 PM a sculpted, snarling monument -
this Camaro, hotter than a thousand sun-drenched races,
but oddly comforting all the way home

Are you REALLY upset that nobody quoted you?? Well here ya go, I quoted both your posts!! Dude, you've been here 4 months, and have (currently) 29 posts, and you're upset that nobody quotes you?! ..... would you like some cheese with that whine?
Glad you're looking forward to parking yourself in the driver's seat of the new Camaro. Me too :thumb:. Don't peel out of this forum so quickly if you're truly into the Camaro. Seems a little childish? Have a little faith ;).
BigDarknFast 01-29-2008, 09:40 AM eh... my vote is to not be too hard on our friend 2KZ28. Maybe he's new to doing discussion forums. I remember when I started participating on forums... I thought it was like email... "hey - why no instant response?"
Give credit where it's due. Mr. 2KZ28 had the creativity to bring up the idea of 'Camaro haiku'... which I'm having a lot of fun with now! Thank you sir :)
BigDarknFast 01-29-2008, 09:48 AM Speaking of which. It's been a while since my last Haiku. My apologies for the thematic violations in my third installment... I knew I was busting the rules but couldn't help myself... Haiku is supposed to be about ONE MOMENT! I'm embarrassed to say, my Haiku 3 really left unclear, what that moment was. Here's another try.
one last Camaro glance -
as I walk away, the car shouts
a defiant bellow of street domination
(its supposed to be like, when you look over your shoulder in a parking lot at your Camaro  )
