chevydude26 01-14-2008, 02:13 PM I love the camaro and have been following it closely on this board since the concept was unveiled. I had fears that the production car wouldn't live up to the concept....it got close but no cigar
the rear of the car is rounded instead of square like this picture
http://www.2007camaro.org/camaro.jpg
the side skirts on the concept gave the care a svelte look with a commanding presence
the car now looks pedestrian and much less refined
can i achieve the look of the concept with aftermarket parts?
JasonD 01-14-2008, 02:16 PM If you don't mind the advice, I'd wait until you see the car in person before comparing preproduction pics to a heavily photoshopped brochure pics.
Even if you are onto something, the aftermarket is expected to be MASSIVE for this car.
hyperv6 01-14-2008, 02:22 PM If I were you I would wait till you see it in person. You are going to be suprised that most of the changes will b very unnoticable unless the cars are side by side.
They have changed very little what they did they kept it as close as they could for a car that needs to live in the real world.
The biggest change has been the 20 inch wheels down from 24 inch. Now that I have seen both the show cars wheels make it look a little cartoonish.
chevydude26 01-14-2008, 02:28 PM i'm still pretty optimistic about the car ...just a little worried because i remember how cool the 05 mustang concept looked and how plain and ugly it came out...
and considering that the camaro is probably going to retail in a similar price package i'm skeptical that it could retain the jaw dropping looks of the concept ...cuz the concept looks like it should retail for 70,000
which kind of makes me wish the camaro went the dodge route and priced it higher so it could retain all the awesomeness of the concept...
but if i gotta put sideskirts, put the bowtie....i'm sure the convertible with a nice paintjob will be awesome next year in my driveway

is that a sure thing that a gto is coming out?
LeadSled1 01-14-2008, 04:01 PM I want to know what the small hump is on the side of the hood in front of the driver. Looks like some kind of heat extractor? I noticed it in white and thought it was just an illusion but it shows up in the darker color also.

Hopefully the photoshop work gave you a better picture of the car. White is NOT the most revealing color of a car's body lines.
I'm a little shocked by people's responses to the 5th gen-- The 4th gen wasn't exactly aggressive or muscular IMHO...It was actually pretty bulbous with a sloping hood, rounded sides, and wiiiiide hips.
The 5th gen looks like it's put in some time at the gym doing some power lifting, looks great IMHO

I'm pretty sure that's just an illusion. It doesn't show up in the front pics.
Z/28lover 01-14-2008, 04:40 PM Wow, you guys are just....WOW.
I want everyone to think back in your life how many times you have seen pictures of a car.
Now think back and think how many times you have seen the actual car that looked nothing like the picture.
You guys are using a white car vs a photoshopped marketing/sales picture to use as a comparison.
WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE IT IN PERSON, BEFORE YOU MAKE A JUDGMENT and remember what Scott has been telling us since he was born.
KEEP
THE
FAITH
JasonD 01-14-2008, 05:28 PM I had a 1996 Z28 on order at the time the SS started showing up in magazines. I did not like the way the SS looked in the magazines.
When I saw the SS in person, I cancelled my Z28 order and bought the SS that I saw on the spot.
Now, this isn't about the whole Z28 vs. SS thing that some of you guys cannot seem to shut up about, but my point is that you must see a car in person to make a fair judgment.
We have proven it dozens of times when it comes to the next Camaro. Members who have been here for a couple of years will remember that when the concept came out, people were crabbing about it. We all said "see it in person" and the greater majority of the time, people would change their tune after seeing it in person. It applies to now, and every other car out there. 2D images cannot capture what a 3D car really looks like. Back in the 70s when everything was a box, maybe. Not now.
3rdGenNut 01-14-2008, 06:31 PM This is going to be the longest year and a half (waiting on the convertible) of my life.
I decided to pick up a Harley this spring to hold me over. Hopefully I'll live long enuff to see the vert. I think they hold their value pretty well, So I shouldn't lose too much by the time the Z/vert arrives.

Let it be known that you started it! :D
I remeber when I first saw a pic of the 4th Gen. It was a V6 Camaro in green and I thought; GM why did you just round off the 3rd Gen? But one look in person at the Auto Show and I was hooked.
Now while I swooned over the concept pics in 2006 and loved what I saw. The car did seem to be bulky and tall. And while I was ok with that seeing it and the convert in person really did the car justice. It's more svelt and tight than it looks in pics.
That's why it's ALWAYS the best choice to see a car in person before casting judgement. Lot's of the hysteria here over spy pics is nonsense and there are many here whom will get to say I told ya so until they are blue in the face when the car is launched.
Tricked-Out-Toy 01-14-2008, 07:06 PM Retarded title to a retarded thread... This camaro will have more HP and will handle better than any of the previous years. how can you even say "lost its muscle"??? threads like this piss me off......

This is the color i will buy. By the way nice job.
Shellhead 01-14-2008, 11:43 PM Yeah, I agree that seeing it in person makes all the difference. When I first saw pictures of the '98 TA, I didn't like it until I saw them on the road. Then I debated the WS6, and saw pictures and HATED it......then I got a model kit......then I saw one in person and was SOLD! It had such a different look compared to pictures - I was floored and ever since I've been a firm believer of the "see it in person" club.
SSmoknLT1 01-14-2008, 11:50 PM no! it defines muscle!
tls2000 01-15-2008, 01:04 AM This car is going to look AMAZING in black. I'm sold on a black convertible with racing stripes.
This is the most muscular car that GM has made in a long time (strictly by looks).

I was talking in terms of appearance...and yes i saw the concept in person and it looked better and much more expensive than the corvette...which worried me because i couldn't imagine a 30,000 dollar car outshining the vette...and i've seen how the 2005 mustang concept turned into a plain piece of metal
but i see a lot of the concept in the pre-p and hope it retains the svelte muscular square look and i might have to put a bit of spoiler to square out the back because right now it looks to circular almost like its trying to be a bmw

Dragoneye 01-15-2008, 01:12 PM clear differences...yeah - but I don't see how that correlates with it losing it's muscle in any form or fashion....if anything, the additional angles, and edges make it more muscular-looking in my view.

The rear end was something I always figured would get a little bigger. The concept BARELY had a rear bumper. Imagine getting rear ended in the concept with passengers in the back seat .
I'm pretty sure the rear bumper had to grow for safety reg reasons. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this...
And I actually kinda like the pre-prod rear better. The concept's always looked a little flat. The pre-prod's has shape but isnt too rounded IMO.

I agree. The name of the thread was rather retarded. With a 6.2 Liter V8 it could be pink with white dots and still have muscle.
georgejetson 01-16-2008, 07:38 AM In that titanium color, maybe with black stripes, sitting next to a Challenger or a Mustang at a stoplight, that thing is going to look awesome -- and NOBODY is going to suggest that there's any muscle missing. GM has done a brilliant job.
ChrisFrez 01-16-2008, 07:44 AM This car ooozes Chevrolet Muscle! Wait till you get behind the wheel, rev it up, and take off - this car IS Camaro!

it just looks cheaper now for some reason
christianjax 01-16-2008, 12:41 PM it just looks cheaper now for some reason
Probably because the Concept cost over a MILLION DOLLARS to build and a production Camaro will be around 30 thousands.
JasonD 01-16-2008, 01:43 PM Probably because the Concept cost over a MILLION DOLLARS
Actually, more in the range of 5-6 times that.
Not to mention...we are talking about a MULE. Mule does not equal production vehicle. There is more work to be done.

I got my faith in gm ...besides i noticed if i put a small spoiler ,an aftermarket bow tie and it being in convertible it will look pretty close to the concept
if i was like some rich millionare...could i theoritically but a concept like camaro from gm??
