LS6-M22 01-11-2008, 01:07 AM Well I am talking about being able to order a new Camaro in 09 without any luxary options like power windows and locks and all the fluff.I ordered my 2K Z28 stripped and I hope I can order a 09 that way but I have a gut feeling that that wont be the case.Anybody else hear me??
Z284ever 01-11-2008, 01:11 AM Nope. No chance.
LS6-M22 01-11-2008, 01:14 AM Do you think that its too much money to tool up the needed parts or is it just that I am in a small .0001% that would order a car as such?

Probably both those reasons.

It's actually very cost prohibitave to engineer and validate manual "windows" on a vehicle that will rarely be ordered without a power window option.
What you can opt for on the Camaro will all be revealed in time...
bbqz28 01-11-2008, 08:53 AM I bought my current car simply because I was tired of the power windows going out on my previous Fbodies. I hope they do have a stripped down model when they come out.

i seriously doubt the 5th gen will have the same window motor issues as the 4th gen did
90rocz 01-11-2008, 09:34 AM With todays smaller, stronger window motors, plastic tracks etc...would we actually see an appreciable weight savings with manual widows???
And if you pull the door panels every few years and grease the sliders and tracks, the motors hardly ever go bad.
Also, bad door wipers let water inside the door and can seize things up as well...not to mention rust.
I just hope they use Buick type mechanisms b/c they seem to go up and down much faster, and more reliably.
DvBoard 01-11-2008, 09:34 AM A "stripper" version isn't economical as it is an additional cost to sell a car for less.
Even as few people who would order a "stripper" version, even less would be willing to pay more for it.
Silverado C-10 01-11-2008, 09:40 AM I would LOVE it if my car came with a stripper.
fastball 01-11-2008, 10:13 AM You will most likely see one touch auto up AND down for both windows, as well as the moonroof. This feature is no longer a mechanical operation but the auto operation is now done by computer sensors in the BCM. Also, I would not be surprised to see an option for remote control window and roof operation like Honda and BMW have now.
What I'm getting at is that power windows are no longer a motor, wires, and a few switches. And since they may be controlled by the BCM, it would be completely illogical to make one version of the BCM without power window control. Lest we forget, this Camaro is not only going to be 21st century style and performance, but 21st century technology behind the glovebox or under the kick panels.
I'm certain we'll see a complex menagerie of computer circuits never even considered for any previous Camaro.
pickardracing 01-11-2008, 10:19 AM So no 1LE car? Bummer.
Not a huge deal I guess.
Dragoneye 01-11-2008, 10:24 AM Any possibility of a Stripper? Well, hell. I don't know - I suppose it comes down to two simple questions:
how much you got?
And, is it in singles? :p

Yeah....the Challenger got one....:D

My fiance wouldn't either (we'll be married by the time the car comes out  ) but I'll just keep it in the trunk until I need to use it. She'll probably wonder why I spend so many nights in the garage....

Gripenfelter 01-11-2008, 12:44 PM How much weight does IRS add over the standard solid axle?
Malice 1 01-11-2008, 12:46 PM I'm gonna try and order mine without all the BS ghey options like the mustang has:
chrome gauge bezels
custom cargo net for trunk
custom embroidered floor mats
etc.....
Those are all crap options that drive up the price for no reason.
JakeRobb 01-11-2008, 01:44 PM How much weight does IRS add over the standard solid axle?
I thought IRS was lighter. What the heck does that have to do with the thread?
LS6-M22 01-11-2008, 04:02 PM I figured that it may now be standard with all the power options. Its too bad but not for weight savings or even price its the complexity and reliablity that I wonder about.

Power windows, seats, mirrors, and locks really aren't all that complicated, especially when compared to things like an engine, transmission, or even an HVAC or stereo system.

Im sure that you might have been tainted by the 4th gens horrible window motors, or the motors for the flip up headlights, or other things like that.
In all honesty, I think that with new technology we will be ok. For GM to engineer a "stripper" platform would require more money to engineer this into the car, therefor raising the price. Overall, there isnt much benifit over manual systems.
GTOJack 01-13-2008, 09:04 AM The standard 6 way power drivers seat should add about 40 pounds to the car.
Ron78Z&01SS 01-13-2008, 02:04 PM People are hung up over the power windows for some reason.
I can't speak of the C6 Z06, but consider what was done to decrease weight for the C5 Z06 compared to the C5 fixed roof coupe (short rear window):
No fog lights, no power antenna, decrease cabin & NO trunk insulation, no storage compartment covers, titanium exhaust, thinner windshield.....I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out too.
But you know what they kept? ......POWER WINDOWS
Someone else above posted that perhaps the weight of a manual regulator weighs as much, if not more than a powered set-up?

People have this fixation on motors from 30 years ago. Back then they weighed at least 5 pounds, pulled 10 amps of current, and were slow, lethargic, and troublesome.
Modern electric motors are lightweight, efficient, and thanks to compact windings and sealed ball bearing movement, very reliable. The move faster and smoother, too.
how can you not want power windows?
LS6-M22 01-13-2008, 08:31 PM how can you not want power windows?
I simply feel that its not nessary for me.A luxary that makes people more dependent and when they break its a royal pain in the a$$.Just one more thing to cause inconvience especially when they break in the down position during a rainstorm.
GTOJack 01-13-2008, 09:40 PM A/C and power everything will be standard. Probably wont even have a radio delete option. I just hope the dealers dont get carried away and order new Camaros with EVERY option because they know they will find a buyer the first year and they can make more profit from a highly optioned car.

I'm thinking this is probably EXACTLY what's going to happen. :irk:
GTOJack 01-14-2008, 07:58 AM Leave it to the dealers and they will turn a $29,000 V8 Camaro into a $34,000 one.

Only if people actually buy from them after they jack up the price. Refuse Camaro Markups!!

When the time comes we should have a no dealermark up list for all the major cities.
bobscogin 01-15-2008, 08:25 AM how can you not want power windows?
Oh. I *want* power windows all right, but I *want* them to work for more than 2 or 3 years. I've got manually operated windows in a 43 year old Impala that go up and down just fine, and will likely continue to do so until my arms fall off. The power windows in the fifth gen need to be better quality than the junk my fourth gen had --- or give me manually operated.
Bob

Ive thought about that. Put up a list of States with people that have delt with dealers and salespeople that have sold the car at sticker. For those that keep the the msrp, they shall be rewarded. I bet you the additonal 10 or so Camaros they sell form this site, which will probably be V8 decently optioned cars, will bring them more money then 2-3 Camaros they will sell with mark up.

Don't worry, I'll help out! I WILL NOT buy until I can get the car for at least the sticker price, but I may even wait for a 0% event :D (Although, that may be quite a while before it would apply to the Camaro, so maybe not?)

Already in the process of being built. :cz28: But for now, just put " REFUSE CAMARO MARKUPS! " in your sigs!
But that is another thread entirely I suppose...
GTOJack 01-15-2008, 05:40 PM I wasnt talking about dealer markups. I was referring to dealers ordering $5000 in options for cars to sell on their lot that are not customer ordered. Dealers know they can make more money off of a highly contented car. You can add over $12,000 in options on a new Corvette LS3 coupe.

It will be interesting to see how far in advance Chevy will start accepting orders and what the actual demand will be. That'll dictate how it plays out.
Until production ramps up to full tilt, it's something that may be unavoidable at first.

Even if they did I would much rather replace my 2 power windows every 120k then have manual windows.
Disco is dead.
